this week in unintentionally grim-sounding recruiting headlines
Free agent Glenn Robinson III reached agreement on a three-year deal with the Pacers according to Yahoo! Sports. The second-year player appeared in 35 games for the 76ers and Timberwolves last season.
Great guy. Geaux Bleu!
Caris Levert at #9 to Charlotte.
Zak Irvin at #29 to Atlanta.
If that happens, then that probably means we had a really good season. Zak looked like he was putting it all together towards the end of last year. Let's hope he can continue using all his tools and working on the chemistry with LeVert, Walton, Doyle and Chatman. I'm looking for Chatman or Wilson to step up big this year as well!
Other notable names:
Jaylen Brown (California SF) at #3 to Philadelphia.
Melo Trimble (Maryland PG) at #22 to Chicago.
Diamond Stone (Maryland C) at #23 to Denver.
Troy Williams (Indiana SF) at #31 to Minnesota.
Nigel Hayes (Wisconsin PF) at #37 to Philadelphia.
AJ Hammons (Purdue C) at #56 to San Antonio.
Crisler Center was abuzz with the opening day of the John Beilein Player Developement Camp.
I dropped off my 9th grade son and his friend for four days of basketball instruction with Coach Beilein and his staff/players.
They provided a very detailed schedule/agenda, which, knowing Coach Beilein, will be followed to the minute. Looks like there is a variety of activities, including drills, games, instruction, talks, etc.
We were greeted at the doors of the Crisler Center by Austin Hatch and Sean Lonergan. Duncan Robinson was standing near the door when I left after registering my son and his friend.
The kids stay at South Quad. My son enjoyed going online and looking at pictures of the dorm and checking out the daily food menu.
My wife's aunt and cousin from Cleveland (no relation to MGrowOld) are in town for the Art Fair, so we'll be up in Ann Arbor tomorrow and then on Sunday to pick up my son from the basketball camp.
Anyone else on here have kids at the camp? Any of you young folks participated in the camp before?
We really like the Art Fair and have purchased many items over the years and still have them on our walls/tables/shelves. Are you an Art Fair supporter or detractor?
Here's hoping my son attacks the basketball camp with Enthusiasm Unknown To Mankind!
To answer guestavo's question the other day - "So what 3* does Beilein get drafted higher than Tyus Battle?" - it appears the first challenger is Ibi Watson, out of Pickerington, OH. Pickerington, of course, is where fellow late blooming, (former) high-school twig Caris LeVert hails from. Watson is 6'4" and allegedly 180 pounds. He recently added an offer from the Hoosiers to go alongside offers from UMass and Dayton.
Also, per Chris Balas on Twitter today, Michigan is taking a look at Amir Coffey, a 4* wing out of the Gopher state. Coffey tore his ACL a little while back, but has still managed to maintain his top 50 ranking on Rivals. Apparently there is pretty significant mutual interest there. Coffey has offers from Arizona, IU, MSU, and Wisconsin, among others. I'm a huge fan of his game. Looks like a future pro.
