Saban comes from the defensive side of the ball. He needs someone more experienced as an OC so that he can rely on them to run the offense by themselves. For him, promoting Gattis to sole OC is a risky move. For Harbaugh, a young up-and-comer at OC isn't risky because he is going to be very involved with the offense no matter what.
2009 season-Colt McCoy gets hurt on the opening drive of the BCS title game. Bama wins.
2011 season-Bama doesn't even win their division but gets to play in BCS title game. Bama wins.
2012 season- Notre Dame and Ohio State are undefeated. Bama has 1 loss but OSU is not bowl eligible. Bama gets to play in the BCS title game. Bama wins.
I truly do not understand where you are going with this. Would it make you happy if I decided that I shouldn't watch and support MIchigan football anymore? Because if you are asking people to choose between the safety of their children or watching football, football is going to come out a loser. Trying to guilt people into letting their kids play football is not going to work. How about you make the best choices for your family and I'll do the same and then on Saturdays in the fall, we can all support the MIchigan Wolverines.
SInce 2000, almost all of the national championships have been won by coaches in their first 3-4 years at that school. Mack Brown at Texas being the notable exception.
I have not read anyone in this thread advocating for the banning of football or casting judgement on someone who does allow their child to play. You're the one shaking your head at people who are making an informed decision on the well-being of their kids. Would you prefer it if everyone who doesn't want their kids playing football also stopped supporting MIchigan football?
Also, I am a fan of Jim Harbaugh but that doesn't mean that I hang on his every word and agree with everything that comes out of his mouth.
It doesn't seem like a huge stretch to think Harbaugh was actually looking out for him. Just because Saban abuses medical redshirts doesn't mean that it's a bad thing.
He's so fired up to spend more time recruiting that he got Nick Saban to start talking about work-life balance and the entire SEC to start whining about competitive balance. What's next? Partner up with the engineering school in order to invent a new form of communication that he can use to contact recruits as often as he likes before the NCAA can regulate it? They can name it HarChat.
The Ivy League is an athletic conference. Saying that the Ag School at Cornell is not part of the Ivy League makes as much sense as saying that the Engineering School at Michigan is not really part of the Big 10.

How do you not know the rules of the game that you are being paid millions of dollars to coach?
