01/11/2018 - 10:45am Harbaugh said it

Coach Harbaugh said about Brandon Peters earlier in the year that he (paraphased) - "Didn't take control of the huddle" or something to that effect.  After watching the NC game and how the Alabama freshman QB was a leader that increased the level of play for his entire team, it is easy to see how important that leadership quality is to a team.  Here is to having a QB that leads our team next year.

01/09/2018 - 3:06pm I, too, am in Huntsville

I, too, am in the Huntsville area and can help provide a support network.  There are a lot of us Wolverines here to help.

I have been lucky health-wise, but I have a couple of stories in my immediate family.  My wife, a Type 1 diabetic who believed she had CFS at one point, had a spinal fusion, followed by a near-fatal Diabetic Ketoacidosis incident and, year later, a bout with Skull-based Osteomyelitis.  The Osteomyelitis caused her a tremendous amount of pain and was originally thought to be a tumor.  The good news is that, after her fifth different ENT doctor, at the University of Alabama-Birmingham made the proper diagnosis on the first visit and prescribed treatment that cleared up the problem.  UAB has extremely talented medical people.  UAB is also affiliated with the Huntsville Hospital System, so if you come here to Huntsville, you will get the same top-notch care.

Ace, your story is very similar to my second "immediate family" story.  My step-son, also a Type 1 diabetic, was at Michigan for his senior year majoring in Philosophy, Greek, and Latin with the goal of being a Philosophy Professor.  He fell into a major depression and didn't leave his room in his off-campus housing for several weeks.  As he was quite independent and didn't really check in much with us, it didn't concern us until he didn't respond to several calls; police were sent to the house and found him alive but quite ill.  Needless to say, we brought him home and he was diagnosed with obsessive perfectionism.  He stopped going to class because, though he had a 4.0 going in his final semester, he felt as though he wasn't doing good enough work for his professors.  He was treated and is better now, though he did not return to complete his degree.  He now works for me as a software developer (and he is really good at that)..

In summary, I hope you find relief in Alabama.  I am sure I speak for the entire Alabama Michigan family in saying, "We are here if you need us."

01/04/2018 - 1:16am Harbaugh said it

Regarding Brandon Peters, Harbaugh said earlier in the season that he "didn't take command on the field" or something to that effect.  That is absence of leadership on the field was evident in the bowl game.

It takes more than being able to throw a perfect spiral to be a quarterback that leads their team to greatness.  It takes that extra something that inspires teammates to play up to - and to exceed - their expectations.  Hopefully Brandon will find that fire that will transform him and, if he doesn't, my guess is that Dylan or Shea will have it (and the starting job).

Go Blue..

11/29/2017 - 8:05pm I was hoping

I was hoping to see him catch a late “Hail Mary” just so I could hear the announcers say “Moe Ways to Win!!!”

11/27/2017 - 4:47pm That is about the age..

That is about the age (41) that I stopped kicking furniture when Michigan lost.  Then again, only my wife and kids knew about that (and my wife bought sturdy furniture).

My day sucks when Michigan loses, but the next day is a new day (and next year will have a more experienced team).

11/08/2017 - 8:58am To each their own

My style is different..  I have slept with the same woman over 10,000 times and have a beer *almost* every day..

09/09/2017 - 10:01am Halfway

People in Cincinnati claim that Cincinnati is halfway to everywhere.  That also implies that it is halfway to nowhere.

07/04/2017 - 2:19pm Heart condition

So, I wonder if Meyer learned of his heart condition after the coed laughed at him for not being able to get it up?

03/22/2017 - 5:54pm I am not so sure..

I am not an aeronautical engineer, but I do own and fly a plane.  Though the horizonatal stabilizer would be helpful due to it's size, and the leverage of the up/down elevators would be much smaller than the ailerons out on the end of the wings (which bank the plane when one is up and one is down), I am not so sure that the pilot's would have been able to control it if they lifted off the ground.  Pilots train for all sorts of contingencies, but having controls forces that may react counter to normal inputs basically makes them test pilots.

I have heard of pilots who lost the *entire* elevator and used the trim tab to control the elevator movement, but having one elevator up and one stuck down is a different story.

I am glad the pilots were paying attention during training.

10/21/2016 - 8:59am You are right..

It was a bit over the top; I must have been groggy from the plane.  That being said, I always thought of myself as more of a dick than an idiot.  My wife learned that soon after I met her when she asked why I had tape stuck across the front of my football helmet with the word 'DICK' printed on it..

10/20/2016 - 7:39pm I just left..

I just left London this morning, but I wasn't there long enough to miss a game (4 nights), so I didn't have to scramble to find a place to watch the game.

You have to plan ahead in the fall.  I was asked to do a speaking tour this fall in NZ / Australia / Singapore / KL / Shanghai, but I turned it down so I didn't have to deal with missing games.  If they want me, they can schedule the tour when it is convenient for me..

08/30/2016 - 10:51pm The food was great!

Darlene and I say that Coach Harbargh is a great food critic (though he missed *us* by a mere two weeks)..

07/22/2016 - 3:51pm Nice shirt...

Nice Ohio State shirt....  Did you get that at a thrift shop?

07/20/2016 - 12:35pm I nearly did the same

I got as far as a letter saying I had been accepted to AOCS in Pensacola, but in the end I did not get to go.  I was already out of school and was a CPA.

In the end, it worked out well.  I know own a software company and have my own plane that I fly into Ann Arbor (from Alabama) for some of the home games..  Moral of the story: I may not be flying jets, but I am flying and having fun.  Mgolund, don't give up on the thought of flying!

01/02/2016 - 10:55am Laces Out

Laces Out Fickell!

11/29/2015 - 10:30am Easy

Music City would be easy for me, but I would expect that a team that was in the CFP conversation up until the last week would be selected for a more respectable bowl game.

11/11/2015 - 1:01pm I was in Seattle

I was in Seattle Airport wearing my ever-present Michigan sweatshirt when an OSU fan in his red sweatshirt sat down beside me..  I asked if he had found that sweatshirt at a thrift shop or something..  Of course, this was before Macklemore made thrift shops cool..

09/19/2015 - 9:39am Thank God

Thank God I didn't get the blame for the wave breakdown; I was in Section 8.  That being said, my 3 year old granddaugther did her best, but my 9 month old grandson (and future Michigan commit), both in their first visit to the Big House, did not contribute.

I am home in Alabama this week but will be there in spirit (and watching on BTN).. Go Blue!

09/11/2015 - 5:34pm My Son

My son was living in Missoula for the summer, but he came home to Alabama for the winter..  This weekend, though, we have tickets for the game and are thus in Ann Arbor.

09/09/2015 - 6:52pm Love it

As a fellow MGoPilot (and, why yes, that *is* my 210 sitting at KARB..), I will be thrilled to see the flyover.  I don't live in fear.  <BigGrin>

08/07/2015 - 7:38pm You missed it by two weeks

Coach, you missed by two weeks my fabulous wife, Darlene, striking the pose at Anahuacalli.  BTW, the owner of the place claimed that he sat us at "your" table.[email protected]/20383946375/in/dateposted-public/

08/07/2015 - 7:25pm VPN

When I am overseas, I sign onto my company VPN which makes it appear as though I am on a US network.  I can then access my comcast account and stream games online from my regular TV provider.

07/14/2015 - 1:25pm Heading to Paris

I am heading to Paris next Thursday; I will make sure I wear my Michigan gear while I am there just in case JH is still hanging around..

06/05/2015 - 2:03pm Here in Huntsville

Here in Huntsville, there are a lot of Michigan fans / bumper stickers / even hats among the engineering crowd!   Saban doesn't know what he is talking about but, then again, he doesn't recruit rocket scientists.

06/03/2015 - 11:29pm Great job

Great job and see you back at the WCWS next year!

05/15/2015 - 2:49pm I wish I could play guitar like that

I saw BB King a number of times..

The first time was around 1985 when I took my 2 year old daughter to see him in a theatre in Saginaw; she graduated from UM 10 years ago and now teaches in northeast Michigan.

Another memorable time was when I took my family to see him in Huntsville, AL around 2001 or so and punk'd my son.  We told him we had a surprise for him and drove to the civic center where BB was playing; it happened to coincide with the annual performances of the Nutcracker..  For about 30 minutes or so after we arrived, he was so pissed that we took him 'to the Nutcracker'.  It wasn't until we actually took our seats that he realized why we were there..

BB, when I retire and finally have time to learn to play guitar properly, I hope to learn a few or your techniques..

04/15/2015 - 11:19pm Early 90's

I remember the first time I was able to exchange email with an old high school friend who worked at Motorola.  My company only connected to the Internet to exchange email once a day and, in those days, you had to know the path of computers the email would take.  In my case, the mail address to my friend was something like:

I also remember seeing and using one of the first beta versions of Mosaic (which later become Netscape)..

12/07/2014 - 10:30pm I think

I *think* Malzahn spent a year as the HC at Arkansas State...

11/17/2014 - 5:33pm Frank Clark

Frank is one hell of a football player.  I hope he decides to move forward in a positive way and that someday he becomes one hell of a man.

11/03/2014 - 8:40pm Never

I have never been a big science fiction fan..

10/12/2014 - 11:27am The Leaders and the Best

Notice that 'Leaders' comes first; perhaps this is the type of development the football team needed to take the amount of talent they have and focus it on winning games.

09/18/2014 - 12:59pm I wish..

I wish I could flyover in my 210; the FAA frowns on that kind of stuff!  <BigGrin>

FWIW, I have flown in a P-51 and it was definitely a cool experience; there is a good chance I may get to fly in it again next Saturday (in California though)..

09/06/2014 - 10:11am Your post

Your post broke the rules

Must have seven syllables

Speaking strange today

09/01/2014 - 1:40pm Not a big deal..

Not a big deal to me either way..  On the other hand, Lemonade is good food!

09/01/2014 - 1:04pm Trivial

So my wife went to high school with Julianne Moore at the Frankfort American School (and were both captain of the cheerleader squad, homecoming queen, etc in their respective senior year).   They even competed for the same football player, Mark Simmerlee, and, of course, my wife beat out Julianne..

So, what does that all mean?   In the 25 years since she met me, she has become a die-hard Michigan fan..  Also, lucky me!  <BigGrin>

07/08/2014 - 7:00pm It's the shoes

Perhaps it is just due to the fact that they are wearing Nike?

06/18/2014 - 10:45am Thrift Shop

I flew into Seattle yesterday (of course I was wearing my 'Michigan Football' T-Shirt..  I ran into a guy wearing an Ohio State T-Shirt and, in light of Seattle being the home of Macklemore, I asked the Ohio State fan about his shirt:

"Pick that up at a thrift shop?"

03/25/2014 - 11:34am Mirror

I am sure someone with intelligence arranged the letters that way so, if the wearer forgets how to spell it, they can just look in the mirror.

03/19/2014 - 3:09pm I am not a computer networking guy, but

When I was in Switzerland a couple of months ago, I went on wifi at the hotel and connected my laptop to my corporate portal here in the US via VPN.  I was then seen by the network as being 'US-based' and could hit all of the normal online sites via my cable provider (Comcast).

02/23/2014 - 2:47pm It worked for me

It worked for me for the first 30 minutes as, here in Huntsville, AL, the game was preempted by *church* services on the local CBS affiliate..

12/02/2013 - 7:35pm Confirm BTN2Go Stream

I am watching here in my office in Alabama on BTN2Go..

12/02/2013 - 11:27am CBS

CBS featured the kid and his story on both the Friday night news *and* rehashed it on their 'Sunday Morning' show, but they failed to mention that he was attending 'The Game' as the guest of Brady Hoke.

I hope the kid continues his recovery and leads a long and happy life..  Happy except, of course, on one specific Saturday every year.

11/26/2013 - 6:57pm I believe..

I believe in our team and I am sure that, after all of the work they put in, they are more disappointed than those of us who are merely fans.  I hurt terribly when our team isn't dominant; they will be dominant in the future.

If anyone on the team is reading this, good luck on Saturday, play hard, and we will all be cheering you on..

11/25/2013 - 10:42am Thank you!

We may all ebb and flow with the success of a particular game (or even a single possession), but that justs shows our own little bouts of insanity.

After the game Saturday, I had to go to the store here in Alabama and I *wasn't* in a good place.  As I was going into the store, trying to avoid eye contact with anyone and wearing, of course, a Michigan sweatshirt, a girl said to me, "I like your shirt!".  Perhaps she was from back home or otherwise a Michigan fan, and she probably didn't know of my temporary, self-imposed insanity, but it did put things into perspective.  This is one season, not a lifetime.  Go Blue..

11/24/2013 - 9:18am We have talent on offense

We have talent on offense, but I can't quite put my finger on why they seem so uncoordinated.  At times, they seem to behave like those players from those old electric, vibrating football games.

10/31/2013 - 6:06pm Michigan is home..

Michigan is home to me; nevermind that I actually went to CMU.  I thought at one time that I may want to come to Ann Arbor for a grad degree, but with a CPA certificate and my own software company, I don't really need it.

I did, however, send 2 or my 3 kids to school in Ann Arbor (and the other one may end up there eventually)..

I have been a fan since back when we used to watch Rick Leach play, then get inspired to go out and knock the living crap out of each other playing sandlot football, and I will always be a fan.

10/01/2013 - 7:57pm I remember

I remember that game well..  I was watching in a hotel room in Key West and was bumming big time until the 4th quarter.  The rest of that vacation was great but tiring (partying until all hours of the morning followed by a couple hours sleep and then 8 am activities with our kids).

BTW, why don't we throw out patterns like that anymore?

09/21/2013 - 7:19pm Sit

I sit on my ass
Waiting for my Wolverines
I hope they kick ass

09/11/2013 - 9:51am Outsiders

Perhaps the name 'Outsiders' comes from their rankings being 'Outside the Normal Distribution'?

It sort of reminds me of one of my sons who, from my perspective, has the belief that "Physics doesn't apply to him".  On the other hand, he is extremely smart, so maybe his way of looking at things 'sideways' will lead to a great invention, maybe even the world's next great energy source.  Certainly the odds of that don't fall into middle of any kind of normal distribution.

09/07/2013 - 10:49am Shutout

Josh Furman goes all JMFR-Kovacs on Tommy Rees..  It is easy to win when the opponent doesn't score.

Wish I could be there again this week, but my Dad is going (to only his second game ever!)
