01/10/2017 - 1:59pm Bama

If the voters would just consistently put Alabama at #1, they'd be 4/10. Lesson here is not that #1 never wins; it's that most of the time, Bama is the smart bet.

12/22/2016 - 5:09pm There should be room for both

There should be room for both "don't fucking treat women that way" and "I hope you get your life together to become a better person than how you have allegedly acted so far."

08/20/2015 - 6:05pm Updated the post

I updated the post to include some correlations between average MoV/GS for the year and the MoV in the next game. GS is slightly more strongly correlated, but both are pretty weak. If we could include strength of schedule considerations in it, that might make for a stronger link and is something I'll consider for future posts.

08/20/2015 - 6:03pm I may be alone...

I may be alone in this, but I like watching Michigan blow the doors off early and keep scoring points. At least I think I do... it's been a while. If it's not a team I'm rooting for, I prefer close games all the way.

08/18/2015 - 6:57pm Good idea

I thought about this, but I'm limited by what espn still has boxscores for (the excel macros I wrote rely on the specific formatting they use for recent seasons). The more recent games are a possibility - I looked into doing the 1997 season and that was a no go.

This is literally my story exactly. Made it even better that they'd just lost and I made them all give me repeated high fives.

04/07/2015 - 10:40am The presence of Braxton

The presence of Braxton Miller when Urbs arrived is going to be a big difference maker.

01/13/2015 - 3:16pm OLine

I think the assumption is that the OC/OL is already a heavy load and that there should be another set of eyes on the OL (with TEs grouped with either Ts or WRs)

01/07/2015 - 10:20am Misunderstanding...

I think the poster above is referring to the argument that more 1st rounders become NFL starters because 1st rounders get more practice time, starts, etc., which results in faster development and more opportunities to prove himself. Whereas a 5th or 6th rounder may have only a very few opportunities to prove himself before he's cut from the team.

Recruiting rankings can have a similar bias - 5 stars come in with certain expectations and consequently may end up higher on the depth chart, with more starts, more time on the 1st or 2nd team, etc.. You don't have the same issues of being cut from the team as you do in the NFL (at least not at Michigan), but the difference in starting position on the depth chart can be meaningful in terms of development.

01/07/2015 - 10:15am Agree

He had a broken foot or some such in 2013 I think. Medical redshirt.

12/15/2014 - 8:06pm That makes sense...

As I believe he's gotten a rather large paycheck since the original hearing

11/19/2014 - 7:57am Hang on

to the dang ball!

10/15/2014 - 1:39pm Played first game...

I believe he played in garbage time in the first game. I recall some minor grumbling about it from the mgoblog powers that be - before there were bigger things to grumble about.

09/30/2014 - 8:34am I thought this might be about the offense...

Because he seems to be getting a total pass there as well.

09/18/2014 - 7:49am Scope - all UM games and some others

Primarily looking for current season B1G games, and as many UM games as I can get. Looks like stats archive will work great for older UM games and ESPN will work just fine for current season (and the last 10 years as well).

09/18/2014 - 7:44am This is great!

Will definitely use this site for all Michigan games. I was looking for a way to get box scores for older games than ESPN still had up and this will work wonderfully.

09/17/2014 - 12:36pm Drives me crazy

When people say win time of possession and keep opposing offenses on the sideline. How long your offense takes may change the total number of drives, but it doesn't change the effectiveness of the opponent's next drive. The only time it matters is end of half or end of game, when keeping the ball and using up all of the time remaining can prevent the other team from having an additional drive.

09/13/2014 - 7:18pm Desmond Morgan...

Is a possible exception. Original rumor said 6 weeks, which is fairly serious. Also, haven't heard anything about Taylor's or Funchess's injuries or return times. Funchess on the sidelines with no crutches is probably a good sign.

08/30/2014 - 9:48am Announcer totally serious

Announcer just said "unbelievable this team isn't ranked in the top 25; they return all of their kickers!"

08/30/2014 - 9:46am Looks like

Looks like we found a lineman! Pretty funny.

08/29/2014 - 7:58pm Because of their MW roots...

Because of their Midwest roots, right?

08/29/2014 - 9:56am Puncho

I think he said puncho...

08/19/2014 - 6:29pm Would've have voted for Brian...

Would've have voted for Brian... but Hackenberg is a sizable downgrade from Miller (punting ability notwithstanding).

07/15/2014 - 6:46pm Somebody...

Somebody has been reading the HTTV 2014 mag....

07/15/2014 - 6:45pm Fewer picks but...

Not necessarily fewer poor decisions/bad reads. The NW game in particular was one in which we lucked out that defenders just couldn't hang onto balls DG threw to their chests. OSU game was beautiful, up until the last (and I suppose except for his fumble on a scramble).

06/26/2014 - 1:56pm WOOO

#advanceongoaldifferential is the new #winthegame

06/04/2014 - 4:26pm WHOA whoa

Pump the brakes. From where cometh this sudden burst of optimism? Not used to it.

Love love love the idea of "coherent offense." Seems like a genius idea. We should try it.

05/20/2014 - 1:55pm I see what you did...

Sorted descending order by number of ties. We've missed our chance to match you there!

04/25/2014 - 9:10am What is the point.

I just don't understand what this does for the NCAA. Why punish a kid so harshly for pot? Why test someone who isn't playing? Why do they care about pot? Dumb

04/22/2014 - 2:52pm My guess

is that he knew he wouldn't be able to crack that starting interior lineup of Kalis, Glasgow, and Bosch. Too intimidating for him, for sure.

04/14/2014 - 3:14pm Love the GMattison Playlist

Every MGoBlog post should come with a recommended playlist.

10/17/2013 - 3:50pm Should he just...

Should Stribling just shove him out of bounds as he catches this and before he lands instead? I forget what the rule is in college, but in NFL if he lands OOB for any reason it's incomplete. Granted coaches told him to go for picks. Probably also easier said than done with a guy as big as Robinson.

10/14/2013 - 3:37pm Until you draw your terminal breath

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

10/03/2013 - 4:12pm Against the rules, but...

This seems like something you could hear a charming story about. "Coach X cares about the students, there was a time when Player Y was struggling to support himself and Coach X loaned him a small amount of money to help him get through the month." I don't see the harm here, except that it's a blatant violation of NCAA rules.

09/15/2013 - 12:26pm Great call

On the BTN announcers talking about Dileo's speed and ability in space - I laughed aloud when one of them said something like "and he can run!" after Dileo fielded a punt.

09/02/2013 - 10:07pm There goes...

This week's spending money, eh?

08/31/2013 - 12:37pm OSU's kickoff formation

Did anyone else notice that OSU's kickoff formation is weird? The coverage team is lining up very close to the kicker. Buffalo seems to have a very hard time blocking anybody to set up a return (although that could just be the caliber of the competition).
