When I played back in high school I broke one of the welds on my face mask and had to switch it out in the middle of a game. My coach saved it until the end of the year banquet and gave it to me as an award. I still have it in my basement. That's Football....
I would love if they come back, but I am sure they will do whatever they think best for them. I hope they come up big in 4 more games and ride off into the sunset.
Obviously you are right to be concerned. When a patient experiences cardiac arrest, after spontaneous circulation is restored, if a patient is not alert they are often sedated in the ICU for targeted temperature management (cooling). Wouldn't surprise me if that is what is going on. Hopefully they have figured out what caused the arrest at this point and have corrected it, if possible. From limited info it seems like he has stabilized so at this point kind of a waiting game to see if he is neurologically intact. All speculation based on limited info and some medical knowledge. Prayers for him, his family and all other patients fighting right now!

Back when I was in college (at UofM), but grew up in the Lansing area I was hanging out with high school friends and found myself at the MSU hockey house in East Lansing . Not sure why, it was a strange night. Even stranger myself and most of my friends (mixed UofM and MSU) were sober and having a pretty chill night. One of my friends struck up a conversation with a girl at the house, who it turns out was the girlfriend of one of the MSU hockey players. We found this out when the player returned shit faced from the bar and pulled the classic “you talking to my girl”. Somehow we narrowly avoided getting our ass kicked while we made our escape under a barrage of beer bottles… I was really glad I was sober that night, and we made got out of there intact…
anyways…. Fuck the sparty bros and their shitty inferiority complex!!!’
As a medical professional, this stuff with Eric All and Cade is a mess. It is confusing and frustrating to see it play out in the public sphere.
UofM medicine has an excellent reputation, anyone can make mistakes, or just simply have differences in professional opinion regarding the same process. It is really impossible to have any kind of professional opinion regarding what has happened with the care of these guys. There has not been enough information released and there likely never will be. This a very very common problem in trying to "Monday morning quarterback" medical care with incomplete information. The details matter so much, the imaging matters so much. The exact procedure performed and symptoms it was trying to address matter so much.
I wish these guys all the best with their future. Can't wait until we aren't speculating about this anymore!
Very new to watching soccer, but my son has really gotten into playing it over the past year so we are following the word cup. Few random observations about the games I have watched.
1) The first half of the games seems significantly slower than the second half. It seems like the teams kind of warm up for 10-15 min and try to maintain possession and probe the defense, occasionally trying to score, but just as happy to pass it back and forth between the defenders. Then the second half gets more exciting with teams more willing to push the ball and take more chances attacking leading to more counter attacks.
2) Some teams really flop on the ground and roll around a lot exaggerating everything. The US vs. England game I think had almost none of this, at least not the over the top theatrics.
3) Almost NO commercials!!!! Crazy. Game play doesn't lend itself to a bunch of commercials which is really nice.
4) It is really hard to score goals.
5) The fields are really big.
6) Totally different world class athletes when compared to American football. Switching between Brazil game and lions game was kind of funny. The football players just look really fat, especially the linemen. I just thought the juxtaposition was awesome, big tough linemen pushing massively strong and quick people around, vs. extremely fit soccer players running all over the place.
Anyways, let's hope we win vs. Iran. Hope we take care of OSU tomorrow as well.
I am legit just totally confused by our red zone O... These games feel like watching a boa constrictor eat a meal that is almost too big.... it goes down eventually, but slowly, and painfully, and stressfully...
That was my thought as well... But I guess it makes sense. It sounds like there is "no buyout" number in the contract, so if they fire him they owe him the balance of his salary. No buyout kind of implies they would owe him nothing, but it's kind of the opposite, and totally crazy!
My son has played NFL flag football for the past couple years and I am one of the coaches on his team this year. I am actually a little excited about the flag game, and I think my son may like it. May give it a watch.
Count me in!!! For an early season game blowout he has kept it light hearted and entertaining.
As far as the team, I see nothing but good things all across the board. Offense could certainly clean it up, but early season it is not surprising. Quality of opponent caveats apply.

Born and raised Catholic here. Not really Catholic anymore for many many reasons. I think hoping someone gets better and praying for someone to get better are really very similar. Religious people who believe in a god or gods pray to send thoughts to a higher power in hopes things will turn out for the good. I am sure some people even believe that they may get some kind of divine intervention. Hoping someone gets better is basically the same thing. You are sending thoughts out into the "ether" hoping that fate or whatever will turn out good...
In this case people praying or wishing/hoping for the best are acknowledging that they themselves have about zero chance of actually making any difference positive or negative in how the injury turns out. Both acknowledge a lack of control and are sending out positive vibes in their own individual way and using their own belief system.
I think both probably work about the same. How well they work is up for you to decide.
If you want someone to offload tickets to you at a discount on an anonymous internet board for cheaper than market price for one of the biggest games of the year you at least have to give some kind of reason. Tear jerking story about a lost puppy or something...
For me StubHub is the only way to go. It is hard to make it to all the games with young kids. I haven't had season tickets for a few years and have no plans to get them agin. Picking up good seats for cheap a day or two ahead of time when you can make sure the weather will be good for the kids works really well.
I feel the same way. I love Michigan football, but I love the school even more. I love my degree and the opportunities it has given me to be successful. I started dating my wife there. I have so many great memories from my time there and have life long friends I met there. Football is (was?) kind of a bonus, it has been difficult for a while. Doing things the right way, the Michigan way, is most important to me. As tough as it is to go 8-4 on the football I would be infinitely more pissed if there was an institutional scandal...

This really is shocking news! I left the state for medical school and came back for residency. Many of my co-residents were from Wayne State and I was literally blown away by thier clinical skills. Took a while to catch up. Hopefully Wayne can find some where to send their students and continue their great teaching. I think DMC has gone down hill significantly after the corporations got involved several years ago. I was always warned by staff in my specialty that it was not somewhere you wanted to end up once you were an attending...
I keep having this conversation with my friend. It is not all QB it is like death by 1000 cuts. When we do get protection no one is open. When we do get protection and someone is open we drop the ball. When we don't get protection... sack, holding, etc... Like most things in life the difference between playing football and being good at football is all in the details and we can't seem to put all the details together consistently, hopefully we are just young.
I kept thinking the same thing during the game. Sometimes you need to just throw the ball. I don't think we have the recievers who can go up and get the ball, especially since Black was injured. But, come on take a shot, especially playing from behind.
But if we do tweak what we do, then the rest of the offense has to spend a year learning what harbaugh obviously doesn't view as the future identity of the offense. Just to turn an 8-4 team into a 9-3 team.
I also thought it was a little toned down. I did not hear seven nation army once. I make it to a few games a year and this was one of the most enjoyable i can remember. I think with Brandon gone it just felt like a curse was lifted.
