I'm surprised

We didn't go hard after Rushel Shell from PA. I've barely even heard his name as a recruit on here.

Maybe this is something to look into

I turned on the BTN last night and was watching a bit of the Wisconsin vs Ohio State when for some reason I started thinking about Anthony Gonzalez the former OSU WR who is now in the NFL. Does anyone remember how he owned an oxygen tent? I thought I remembered hearing this but wondered if I might've made it up in my head. This bed sounded pricey to me so I thought I'd check it out. I found "It’s not surprising that Gonzalez invested $5,000 in the tent" in  http://tucsoncitizen.com/morgue/2007/01/06/37806-ohio-state-wrs-leave-foes-breathless/

Where does a student-athlete get $5000 to spend on an oxygen bed? It's probably nothing but maybe...

I know this is off topic for this thread but I'm unable start my own. Apologies to the OP.

I've been wondering about the DE recruiting for a while now too.

I think Michigan has a great chance at having an outstanding DE class. It seems there's a lot more talent than usual, especially in the Midwest. ie. If these guys want to stay in the region and go to a national football power their options are Michigan, Notre Dame & Ohio State. ND took 3 top top rated guys last year and OSU has limited numbers this year.  (I'll say now I have no idea where anyone is going) For fun let's say

Ohio State takes 3 - say Ifeadi Odenigbo, Greg McMullen & LaTroy Lewis

Notre Dame takes 3- Tom Strobel, Se'Von Pittman, Adolphus Washington

Michigan then could choose from Matt Godin, Mario Ojemudia, Chris Wormley & Pharoah Brown.

I'd normally say Penn State could come in an pick off one or 2 since they are the next closest power. However PSU already has a DE commitment from Michael Moore, and I imagine they'll be in on both Sean Spence and Darius Hamilton.

Obviously any of these players could choose one of these other teams or another program not listed. I sure hope these guys don't go out of conference, especially to the SEC. I prefer top level recruits to stay in the region to provide competition to make Michigan better and to strengthen the conference as a whole.

I don't know how many DE's any of these schools are gonna take but there is a lot of talent available. I think we're all gonna be pleased with our DE recruiting next February. It's gonna be interesting nonetheless.

I'm wondering why

I'm wondering why Noah Spence and Rushel Shell haven't been offered. They're both highly rated recruits from PA. I've read Spence was sending his tape to the Michigan coaches. Shell seems like he is the kind of back the coaches would want but I haven't read anything regarding him and Michigan.

Loved the movie quote. Well done.

I believe

Penn State also recruits NJ pretty heavily.

When are teams

eligible to start practice? I understand from the orginal post the SEC has already started. Does each conference set their own rules for this or does the NCAA mandate it? This could be quite an advantage for the SEC or any other conference. If Michigan could have started already why haven't they? Also, if they wanted to start on August 10 couldn't they have said to the NCAA "look we wanted to start on __/__/2010 but we're starting August 10th instead, so here are x amount of hours back".

Only one school

has won the National Championship in Football, Baseball, Basketball & Hockey. Michigan!

please explain

I'm not sure what was meant by "if he finds out that his path to UM might hurt his potential as a future NFL player".

Are there any issues between Are there any issues between Petrino and Rodriguez? Mallet transfered there. They poached DeQuinta Jones. That same year Darius Winston committed to Arkansas then flirted with Michigan only to end up signing with Arkansas. The next year the same thing happened with Jatashun Beachum. Petrino and Rodriguez both coached in the Big East at the same time. (2005 & 2006). I know I'm probably reading way too much into this but I thought I'd mention it.
We need this guy He is a must get IMO. I'm also pulling for Lawrence Thomas. I've read we were his childhood team growing up just like Trey. I know it's tough to get a recruit out of Detroit Renaissance because of their ties to MSU but I believe RichRod can do it. I also believe things are gonna come together on the field this year too.
Along with adding depth to a position of need it would be nice to develop a good presence in the Louisiana.
Forgive my ignorance but how do people know where Rich Rods plane is and when?
I think BG will be a great Pro. He'd be lucky to go to the Colts and have the chance to learn from Freeney. Who himself is considered undersized for the position. I can't wait to see Brandon play on Sundays.
Thanks I hadn't heard about the Stanford coach going to Florida either. Thanks for the info.
Well Austin at least enjoys his water. He'll enjoy it even more after a Barwis workout.
I'm really curious to find out who this mystery OL recruit is. I wonder if he doesn't decide for Michigan if we'll find out anyway.
It seems to me that we need some instant impact freshman who we can plug in to play right away. I don't see that in this class. I'd like to think we have some recruits who have a very high upside down the line. At this point however we have holes to fill and positions where we need an upgrade but no one ready in the pipeline.
I think it's completely reasonable to rely on the star system as a predictor. The operative word being predictor. Rivals rated him as a 4 star with a 6.0 rating. He was the #4 CB and the #44 player nationally. Rivals says "The ranking system ranks prospects on a numerical scale from 6.1-4.9. 6.1 Franchise Player; considered one of the elite prospects in the country, generally among the nation's top 25 players overall; deemed to have excellent pro potential; high-major prospect 6.0-5.8 All-American Candidate; high-major prospect; considered one of the nation's top 300 prospects; deemed to have pro potential and ability to make an impact on college team 5.7-5.5 All-Region Selection; considered among the region's top prospects and among the top 750 or so prospects in the country; high-to-mid-major prospect; deemed to have pro potential and ability to make an impact on college team... " http://rivals100.rivals.com/aboutrankings.asp?Sport=1 Scout has had him as a 5 star and the #48 player in the country. I couldn't really find any info regarding how scout rates their players but their About Our Team Rankings says "Talent - This category reflects the quality of players committed to that school. Teams must recruit difference-makers throughout their class to obtain a high ranking." http://www.scout.com/support/teamrankings.html That being said I don't think it's realistic to think each and every player is going to live up to their projection. Others will be much better...
