2012 Recruiting Offer List

Submitted by umhero on

Someone in one of the various TomVH threads asked how many offers we have out.  I've been keeping a spreadsheet of those confirmed by Tom along with those posted on either Scout or Rivals.  Since Tim is still working on the recruiting board, I hope you find this worthwhile.

know how this compares to RR?  toward the end i assume he was aiming lower, with a greater percentage of presumptive 3 star sorts getting offers.  does that sound right?

I don't understand the constant need to compare everything the new regime does to the way the old regime did it. My ex-girlfriend made a mean quesadilla, but I don't constantly compare it to the quesadillas I'm currently eating. I've moved on and I'm better for it...

RR did not recruit small shifty types.  He recruited the best players he could.  The reason there were a lot of 3 stars were because the guy was under a constant shitstorm and his job was constantly in flux.  Tought to recruit to those conditions and he still did ok.

R. Miller and J. Williamson and J. Jackson are all big WR's in any system.

C. Bryant and Tony Posada are huge OL

Etc...

The only small shifty types are the 4 or 5 slot WR.

Any school can offer any Top 250 recruit they want. The bigger question IMO is if we have a realistic chance to get them. If 0 of those 40 offers commit and we're stuck with 3 star sorts the question then becomes moot. Bottom line, it's very early. I believe RR had a top 25 class evyertime?

Jeez, you'd have thought Magnus would have done something like this on his blog.

Magnus (or Thundercat or whatever you call yourself over there) - put up an page of offers that UM has sent out.  You can title it "2012 Offer Board" or something catchy like that.  Sorting it by position and listed the players hometown would help too.  If you have video of them, maybe you could link to it.

While I'm at it, this it what I would make it look like -

Just a thought.

you are honestly going to be offended because this was done on another site. I could understand if Brain had already done this, but cmon we're talking about content on a different site. Do you really feel posters should check every michigan fansite before posting things? I appreicate the work, Thank you OP.

Yes, I was trying to be snarky, but it was more to save the other posters time when there is already a poster on this site that does a very good job compiling this exact list, and has for several years.

There no sense is spending time keeping track of all of this if someone is already doing it, in an easy to read and organized fashion.

Since I'm assuming this OP isn't going to repost this every time we send out a new offer, it might be easier for everyone to just go to Magnus' blog and check it out.  I'm not trying to knock the OP, if anything I'm trying to save him some time and work.

I love Magnus' blog and I'm certainly not trying to replicate it.  I started keeping track of all of the offers because they were happening so fast and at the time neither Rivals nor Scout nor Magus seemed to list them all (although Magnus now has them all).

I also added Ht., Wt., 40 time, and Rivals Top 250 because I was interested in those things and that information isn't available consistently on any of the other sites.  Many posters on this site have asked about the Rivals 250 so this list answers that question.  I assume most of this information will be included in the MGo Recruiting Board that Tim is working on and then my spreadsheet will be retired.

To put an "Offer" column in the table when the title is 2012 Recruiting Offer List? Maybe make that into an Interest Level column. Don't want to see too many Sad Josh's on that list....

I have this in Excel and I also include prospects who haven't been offered yet.  I only posted the players with offers since that was the question that I was answering and the list was already pretty long without including every player we might offer.

I only included players that Rivals, Scout, or TomVH claim have offers.  I can't find him anywhere in those sources.  I assume that a newspaper somewhere reported his Michigan State offer as a Michigan offer.

At this point it looks like our only RB offers are to elite prospects and he doesn't seem to fit the bill.

BTW - I'm a daily visitor to your blog.  It's a great aggregator of Twittered recruiting info. For those looking for a great recruiting resource visit http://2012umrecruit.blogspot.com/ for DGDestroys frequent updates.

A few interesting but meaningless notes:

5 of 6 Defensive Ends offered are from OHIO.

Only 1 of 9 Offensive Lineman offered is from OHIO or MICHIGAN.

I thought the Linebackers to be offered would be more of the Willingham 235-240 lb size....instead so far they are similar size to RR's LB recruits.

Yeah, as me said, the weight of a junior in HS isn't that important really, since most linebackers put on a lot of their weight once they get here.  Demens and Fitzgerald were 224 and 225 coming out of HS, and now they're both 250 or so.  It's not uncommon for these  guys to put on 20-25 lbs over the few years between their senior year of HS and their first couple in college.

So a LB listed at 215-220 on his Rivals profile in 2011 can certainly be 235-245 by the time he sees the field in 2013 or 2014.

I love the players Hoke and Mattison are now recruiting.... its like a warm blanket, and feels like the old ways of Michigan.

Am looking forward to the manner in which Brian pulls a 180 on his "stupid hire" stance, a few years from now, in true Orwellian memory hole fashion.

I'm wondering why Noah Spence and Rushel Shell haven't been offered. They're both highly rated recruits from PA. I've read Spence was sending his tape to the Michigan coaches. Shell seems like he is the kind of back the coaches would want but I haven't read anything regarding him and Michigan.

First of all, great work. Thanks for putting this together!

And one thing I thought I saw: Avery Johnson is an LSU commit, I believe. Would love to have him, but sounds like being Patrick Peterson's younger brother has put LSU in a pretty solid position.
