I'ma put it like dis Last year's Notre Dame game, no matter how both teams finished the season, was one for the ages. You can NOT deny that was one of the best games you have ever watched. Period. College football is all about games like that. Now--to say there is hope for this year---and to negbang anyone who disagrees or voices concerns---I just wonder what people keep seeing in SPRING PRACTICE and in a CONTROLLED SCRIMMAGE that gives them these mega boners? And then, wonder why people question the ultimate greatness of Denard Robinson, all of which is based on a 41-yard TD run against Western Michigan and Michigan's second team defense? And that's where civil discourse and honest debate have been trashed here and on other UM boards. Even to be cautious and to question anything means said poster will be drilled and neg-banged into oblivion and many young fillies will SCREEEEEEm for the "banhammer"--I just don't get it. We have a sample size. UM has been hideous for two years now. The coaching staff has undergone a MAJOR paradigm shift defensively. This staff stands accused of violations. We are banking on a bunch of two and three stars who had the difficult choice of Michigan over Bowling Green or Wyoming. I'll stop there. I guess hope springs eternal, and the only place to go is up. But Rodriguez, for whatever reason (and I'll never discount the horribly unprovoked attack on him from the SE Michigan MSM), faces a monumental uphill battle that will not, in the end, be overcome. He is doomed. He has been doomed from the start. It is not entirely his fault--but the writing is on the wall, boys and girls.
The Sad Thing is If only he would have stayed around and got that precious U of M degree! /snark
Not to mention Most fire deaths occur from smoke inhalation. I've offered up some Dutch Ovens that have achieved the same results.
Teams from the East Equals...PSU in a division it will have a cakewalk through. Sure, Joe Pa wants Rutgers, UConn, or Pitt in there. I want Michigan in a division with Delaware State, Maine, Eastern Michigan, and Albion. I think JoePa carries some weight here--PSU has been a tremendous addition and should be the standard for any further expansion. But IMO, the Big Ten needs to hit a couple home runs here, because once they move, other dominoes will fall, the landscape will change dramatically, and things will be pretty much set in stone for a LONG time. I'd hate to see the Big Ten expand with Rutgers, UConn, Pitt, Syracuse (YAWN), miss out on ND, and then watch the other conferences go out and REALLY realign with programs that people actually give a shit about.
Then Again A lil brevity (I think that means lightheartedness) and possibly an understanding of sarcasm can go a long way. You mention someone dying in a fire, and how maybe fire death humor should result in a banning. Hey, people die playing football--should football humor be a bannable offense? I hardly think anyone here really wants anyone else to die, especially in a horrific way. And please don't toss out your definition of "integrity" as the one that should govern this board.
Agreed, jtmc Anyone who hasn't been panicking, or stressing, since, oh, about Toledo, 2008 must have a steady supply of valium. It seems that expressing ANY concern over how things are going induces the shrill, extremist replies accusing the one concerned of being on the verge of suicide. Thin skins all around on the M boards, no? As for your concern on OL--of course it's valid. If we think every O lineman on the team right now will prove to be a major contributor over the next three years, we CRAZY! I mean, hell, why would anyone want to talk recruiting on a message board where much of the focus is....recruiting?
Got to agree With you here, MGoShoe. However, by June, when we get to the "Who is your 8th favorite Big Ten team" thread, I'll emphatically say, "ILLINOIS!" Call me an old fart, but second favorite team implies that you actually spend time thinking about college football way too long. Here's the list: Favorite Team: Michigan Second Favorite team: Sex Third favorite team: Beer Now, as I get older, #3 is really gaining on #2.
Generational Gaps Listen here: The twitters and texting are no place for grammar. It's the language of the streets. Certainly there has to be some understanding of that. I mean, so many here are such, you know, absolutely stunning literary wizards. LOLZ
Well Then I hope Michigan can beat them this year, seeing how they don't "much matter." I mean, how embarrassing is it that UM hasn't beaten them the last two years--especially with them being so shitty and irrelevant and all.
I Smell MILLIONS For you with that name for a beer. A local brewery with that name? Holy shit. I hope you have the patent papers filed.
I GAR-on-tee If I ever came out to one of those MgoBlog tailgates or whatever (and if I knew the proper pocket protector attire for the event), ya'll and I would have lots of beer and get along just fine. I'm absolutely positive I'm cooler than everybody on this board. And a shit load funnier. And funner.
I agree with your disagreement I'm wondering if the point is Desmond doesn't know diddly shit because he isn't professing undying love for Rich Rodriguez? Desmond has earned the right to come in and critique this thing like a mother. If he doesn't like what he sees, or thinks the hire of Rodriguez is a big pile of FAIL, who can argue? I'm sure Desmond wants Michigan to beat the FARK out of Ohio State and everyone else they play, and win the next 48 national titles. But if he looks at the situation and doesn't see that happening, he's got the forum to say so and more power to him. Former UM players don't owe squat to Rodriguez. I for one sympathize with their frustration over what's happened, and oevr the fact that UM fans who love Rodriguez are pimping a 7-5 record and some fleabag bowl prediction as something to consider a good season. I'l also lay money many of the same guys were frustrated with the last few years under Carr AND understood the transition would be tough. Doesn't mean they have to walk in lock step with UM fans who don't want to believe this thing might not work, though. And it also means they have EARNED the right to gripe if they see fit.
It's the Intranets Come on, man, anomalies RULEZ!
THIS^^^ Has always been the perennial "chicken or egg" thing when I think about the Lloyd Carr era. I'm not so sure Lloyd didn't recruit well, but he sure did slip up on player development and ASSKICKING MENTALITY football--and that was the most frustrating thing. It seemed like every once in awhile UM came out fired up--ND in 2006, 2003, even 2008, The Cap One Bowl--but so much of the rest of the time it was Yawn Yawn Yawn 10-6 halftime lead, OOPS better start trying in the fourth quarter!
Thin Skinned HAHA! What if Irish takes a shot at Rich Rod--who'd be the thin-skinned ones then?
Wow Must be all that time you spend with him that allows you to make that statement.
Irish I love the content you bring to this board. In fact, I'd love it if many fans from many teams would slip over here more than once in a while. I don't get the tone Michigan fans (or probably fans of all teams) take when it comes to The Gloat over other teams, and especially players, troubles. Seems kind of sad, too, coming from a fan base that professes itself to be above the fray. Funny how one guy says it took and act of Gawd for ND to beat UM while under Claussen one time (Threet/Sheridan)--but it also took an act of complete dumb-dumbness for Charlie to call two passing plays this year, keeping time on the clock and giving UM a chance to beat them this past season. I think Jimmy will do well in the NFL.
Parallel Universe Aren't some (even a lot) UM fans thinking and posting that Michigan's defense will be better this year after losing Graham, Warren, and Brown? Interesting.
Trey Ghey Must be the off season, and must be the continued invasion of the Scouties and their stupid threads. What next? "OT: Laverne and Shirley: Prelude to a Michigan Water Polo National Championship?" SRSLY--who gives a rat's ass about posters? All we really want is to post or start some silly thread and hope 893 people reply so we can tell our buddies at work how cool we are because so many people at MgoBlog or Scout responded to our insanity.
Well, Don I may be a dickhead, but I DO hope Dorsey makes it in. I'm a believer in giving kids like Dorsey the chances they need to succeed. Football coaches do need to win, but I know they fathom themselves as part Father Flanagan as well as part Vince Lombardi, and I'm all for it. Whatever it takes (within reason) to show a kid that someone cares--after a lifetime where maybe not many people have shown that--and even if it's because he runs fast and catches footballs or dunks, at least give him a shot.
Bottom Line Kiper is on TV and the radio, makes beaucoup bucks, and the internets are full of guys who can't stand him. He is a rousing success and is probably extremely happy and secure with himself. What? Another guy in the media that UM fans hate? Who'd a thunk it?
Scout Jr Sorry, but the writing has been on the wall with this one for some time now. Think the Freep and other Detroit reporters didn't know they were firing fastballs at RR's head on signing day with regard to Dorsey? This one is over. Truth. Try it. Sets you free.
Adrian Witty 2.0 Where there's smoke, there's fire. Dorsey will never play a down at Michigan.
Hmmm I can see where you are coming from, but disagree on how Suh got most of his sacks. Alot of the pressure that caused QB's to scramble came because of his rushing ability. It might be that he won't be able to push NFL guards around as he did at Nebraska, but I think he brings speed and quickness as well as strength. And again, the different side he shows is his ability to recognize where plays are heading and to drop back or stay on the line to neutralize the blocking when he senses he can't get through. And I don't see any outside rushers you'd take ahead of him. In a magical world, the Lions get Suh and Graham. Oh, the HORROR. Suh is, IMO, a guy who makes people around him better because you have to concentrate on him. Maybe he frees up others to get the tackles and the glamor in the NFL. I just don't see how you pass on him.
Big Time WTF "If you want a game-changing D Lineman take a pass rusher"??? Suh had about 49 hundred billion sacks. Oh, and his recognition when he doesn't fell he can get to the QB is outstanding--many batted down passes and even an interception or two. He goes about 6'5 or so? Is it just an anti-Nebraska bias, or did you just not pay any attention to Suh while he played college ball? I predict if the Lions take Suh, not even Detroit will fuck with him and he will be dominant for many years.
Thanks OP I love analysis about the teams we play, especially the big rivals. Would that UM fans could stop with the lame jail comments.
We Can Win With this offense--as long as we keep playing THIS defense! LOLZ
