This year, let's all be Nebraska fans

Submitted by Rasmus on

I've pretty much always despised Nebraska football, but how sweet would it be this year if Nebraska wins the Big XII (beating Texas twice in the process), and then plays the Big Ten champion (i.e., Michigan) in the BCS championship game!

If the big12ten added thebig 12 champion to the conference, see what the media will say about how strong our conference will be in the future.

Question though.. If Big ten has 6-7 yeams in the conference make a bowl game, would it say... 6 big ten teams make bowl *+1 for Nebraska?

What if big ten teams go 4-2, and nebraska wins. media will say.. Big ten teams went 5-2

Why would we do that?  So that they can come in as the "savior" of the B10 and steal a few potential recruits?  Doesn't make sense.

While I think that Nebraska was a great get for the B10, I do not like Nebraska.  I do not like them in a house, I do no like them with a mouse.  I would not like them with a hen, I will not like them in B 10.

I don't see anything wrong with hoping that they do well and win the Big...12...championchip. That makes the Big Ten stronger as a result. You can't tell me you want all the teams Michigan plays to lose every game they play. Wouldn't be too exciting.

(insert snarky comment below "yes I can")

doesn't exactly mean I'm rooting for them to lose.  If they win all their games, so be it.  I'm not going to get emotional about it either way.  There's just no damn way I'm going to jump on the Cornhusker bandwagon because of what it might mean for public perception of the Big Ten conference.  That's just silly.

Good point about not being emotional either way. I definitly wouldn't be sitting on the couch watching Nebraska each Saturday and cheering them on. I think becoming a fan is too much. I just want them to be a good team so that we can have another exciting matchup on the schedule to get hyped for. And if I was to choose a team I would rather win the Big 12 this year, it would be Nebraska....or Iowa State.

very old in 1997.

Scott Frost begging for the NC.....  The coaches changing their minds after the bowl games and giving Osborne the NC as a retirement gift.....

Glad to have them in the conference but I'll be damned if I root for them.

I want to see Colorado win the Big 12 next year.   Never happen, but oh would that be sweet.   Or basically any of the "Forgotten 5" winning out in the future.  Karma is Texas pilfering all the cash, but getting humiliated on the field.  An amusing, but unlikely prospect.

I would enjoy seeing Nebraska do well in their last year in the Big XII, but to go undefeated wouldn't be good for the rest of us. We don't need their recruiting machine firing up like that right as they enter the conference.

I WOULD, however, absolutely LOVE to see them do so-so this year, get into the championship game, and beat an undefeated Texas into a pulp. Results of the reular-season game can be any degree of a Texas win and that would still be absolutely awesome.

I'm in.

I'd love to see NU win 10 games this year.... and then lose to us in 2011.  Beating great teams is what is going to put us back where we belong.

Same reason I'm hoping UConn goes 11-1 and wins the Big East; I want OSU to beat Miami, and PSU to beat 'Bama.

However, ND can go 6-6 again (and 0-3 against the Big 10)

I am banking on Nebraska going out with their last Big XII title in their last year in the conference.  I like Texas a lot less than I like Nebraska and Nebraska beating them once (possibly twice) in one year would be fantastic.  Having them come in with a strong season to the Big 10 can only remind people what a great pick up this was for us and puts an even brighter spotlight on the conference.

has always been a team I root for (except when playing UM, of course).  Watching them stick it to the Big 12 as a "parting gift" would be great.

Welcome to the Big 10.  I am glad we got you into the fold.  You are a good pickup for the conference.  I hate you.  I can't wait to see Michigan hand your a$$ to you.  If you play Michigan in the Big House, I hope your flight back home is long and misserable.  I hope your cheerleaders cry.  If Michigan plays you in Lincoln, I hope the Big red fans go home weeping.  I hope the coaches take away the black jersies after Michigan puts up 48 pts on you.  I am going to enjoy hating you because of the split national championship, and the travesty that was the alamo bowl.  .  Again, welcome to the Big Ten.

My Uncle is a graduate of Michigan.  I instantly became a lifelong Michigan fan when my family visited him when I was a child (3ish).  After living and working there for a few years, he took another job in Nebraska.  This is during the late 70's, so I've always had a soft spot for them as well.

I have only 1 allegiance though and that is to Maize and Blue.  Even during my career at PSU, I wore M gear and NEVER PSU stuff.

Some teams are never worth rooting for, no matter how much "shine" it brings to conference-OSU, MSU and now Nebraska come to mind. Of course, teams that are "returning to glory" for the last 17 years also make that list.

I don't know about rooting for them this year, but I'm thinking about wearing a Nebraska t-shirt when I go to Dallas in September for a conference.  Wearing that along with my Michigan hat should lead to some interesting conversations, I'm sure.

So really, I wouldn't be doing it support Nebraska, but more so to piss off Longhorn fans.  I guess I'm kind of a jerk. :)

since 1997. Nothing will change that. All their sniveling and the political bullcrap to be considered for the NC. Welcome to the Big Ten so we can pound your asses into oblivion.

For all of you who weren't at the Alamo Bowl, their fans have this "Goooooo Biiiiiiiig Redddddddddddddd... Go Big Red!" cheer that gets really really annoying.  I wouldn't wish more than 0 seconds of that on any Michigan fan.

But hey, at least they aren't bringing Sun Belt refs with them!

I have credit card statements indicating I was in San Antonio that weekend, however I have no memories of ever having been to the Riverwalk, the Alamo or the Alamo Bowl.

I'm not over '97 and won't be rooting for Nebraska at any time in the near or distant future.  Besides, they have a entire state of lunatics rooting for them anyway.

As a kid in the 70s I always figured Nebraska was to U of M as Oklahoma was to Ohio State.  That said, other than Michigan loyalties, I don't know who I'm going to root for in any random game until I see who has pissed me off last.
