I didn't realize he's played most of his professional career in Russia. Seemed right at home today.
A Nigeria win here, of course, keeps Argentina very alive for advancement. What would then probably happen is that Argentina will get gut-punched by a late own-goal to lose 2-1 and miss out anyway.
A tie won’t do them any good either. Argentina must get a win to advance.
Not only do they have to win, they need Croatia not to lose to Iceland which isn't at all a guarantee considering Croatia have nothing to play for and will likely rest their stars.
A 3-goal win over Nigeria could do it if Iceland were only to win by one.
Obviously their ideal scenario is a win and an Iceland loss or draw. In their favor, there is a realistic scenario. Working against them is the fact that they stink.
They could overcome on goal differential yes, but a three goal win is very hard to come by in soccer, especially for a team that stinks. But as bad as they've been, it's gotta be totally frustrating that Iceland get to face by far the best team in the group after they've already clinched the group (barring a total GD collapse of course).
Would be shocking if Croatia played their top players much if at all and that's unfortunately for Argentina and Nigeria who had to play them at full strength.

And just like that, Argentina is still alive....
Here comes the VAR
Yikes. That was ugly.
Oh Gylfi no....missed penalty in the 82nd minute. Nigeria with a few minutes to kill the match now. That counterattack is lethal
Ahmed Musa is the real deal. He can create some opportunities right there. That trap from the Victor Moses cross was pretty impressive.
Wow what a goal
Gooooooooooal Switzerland. What a match!!!!!
Serbia-Switzerland doesn't really move the needle for me, but I flipped it on while working anyway and the second half was fantastic.
Dude, just read up on the backstory between Shaqiri (and a couple of teammates, all of whom are Kosovar) and Serbia.
So that goal was really, really something.
Oh yeah the Albanian Eagle goal celebration is a really big deal
VAR failed today on the Mitrovic foul in the box. That has to be the most obvious missed call of the tournament. And somewhat suspicious.
Yeah, how in hell wasn't that double mugging of Mitrovic called, or at least referred to a VAR ruling, like it was when Iceland missed the PK? In my opinion, the Swiss, with their dirty grab and knock down defensive style, have benefited from laissez faire reffing in both of their games.
