Will Harbaugh Change The Offense To Fit Shea Patterson's Skill Set?

Submitted by Santa Clause on

Shea has shown the ablity to move in and outside the pocket. I was wondering if Harbaugh would change the offense to a more spread/pistol look this season to maximize Shea's talents. What do you guys think?

I hope the best quarterback starts CoverZero. Should just change your name to Zero. Seems more appropriate don't you think? Anyway, I think this kids experience and ability to create plays will be hard to top. We'll see though. If Peters or McCaffrey can beat out Shea, well that means they have become pretty damn good players already. What excitement this is!!!

Patterson’s floor: Take all the great John o Korn plays, then complete all of the missed and overlooked passes to wide open TE’s and WR’s streaking through the secondary. How many more TD’s and first downs (and pressure off the defense and run game) does that equate to?

The ceiling is vast if there is Oline improvement. We have so many weapons on the edge and in the backfield. Plus he is a great runner He’ll occasionally pull the ball too.

and that could be best for all concerned. We have no idea if Shea - logical expectations are he does - rises to the top, but given his experience and talent, that's the probability. it's not only Brandon and Dylan that will be fighting it out though. We'll also have Doyle and Milton entering the fray as well. The beauty of it, even though one could walk as you say, is they all have a season to get a damn good idea of how things will play out going forward.

I'm certain you'll remember the year Carr screwed up with the promises to Drew who he tried to play too early and left a season ahead of what Carr predicted, thereby screwing things up not only for those two years but left us with Big John for three. And although we had a decent run during that stretch, we learned its always better to have too many, sometimes what the fans view as far too many than not enough.

I look back to '97 and our depth at QB and that is what I would like to see again. If Carr could pull that off with one great year, I see no reason that Harbaugh won't be able to do the same in a time period that I am predicting will include more than just one great season.

He has a very strong arm and should be able to move the defense with his skill set from under center. His accuracy, based on what I've read is supposedly good and the short passes used in this scheme should move the defenders backward and horizontally so the lanes for both the long runs and deep passes on the seam routes should be available. I suppose he could and probably will give the defenses a multitude of looks but i really don't know if it would be any more beneficial than what he might accomplish out of the more traditional.

Premature much?

In the case that we get him though, I think that Harbaugh will make some small adjustments in the playcalling to capitalize on his mobility, but there is no way he's completely changing the offense over it. That's a little extreme.

Peters can beat him out because:

1. Peters already is up to speed on a more complex offensive scheme that Patterson isn’t use to.

2. Patterson’s TD to INT ratio is poor.

3. Patterson has happy feat after the first read.
