Why did Mario Mannigham get drafted so late?

I have always kind of wondered why he got drafted so late. He was an absolute beast for us. 3th round is awfully late. I think the Giants got a steal because he is going to do great things there.

This post I agree with more than the Mike Hart one. I think Mario was a steal where he was drafted, and the Giants will be pleased with their choice. I see this year as a break out year for him.

He had the above mentioned marijuana issues and I also belive he ran a terrible forty time at the combine...like a 4.6 or something like that. He later mentioned that he didn't prepare or wasn't training hard, something to that nature. He had and still has 1st round potential however because of the issues above he slipped. I would agree that the Giants definitely got a steal.

Mario ran a 4.67 at the combine and did not do well on the wonderlick. He was expected to be a late first rounder or early 2nd rounder at the latest until he got caught in the lie about the drugs. On his pro day he ran a 4.38 if I remember right, Hart refused to run again, probably because he knew that he would not do any better than the 4.7 40 that he ran at the combine.

I don't remember him having particularly good hands or being a great route runner. don't get me wrong, mario made a lot of plays when he was into the game, but I never felt he'd be much of a threat at the next level.

As a Giants fan we really need Mario to step up this year. Plax is is gone and so is Toomer. The Browns are smoking crack thinking we'll give them Mathias Kiwanuka and our #1 for Edwards. If we don't make a move we'll have Mario, Steve Smith, Hixon, Sinorice Moss(bust) and whoever we get in the 1st round. Not enough.
