Where did "The Decommit" come from?
Until a week ago I'd never heard of them, but recently it seems like half of the recruiting info is coming from the same site. The news seems to be legit, but does anyone know what their sources are? They never quote or cite anyone, yet folks on the board here seem to be trusting it on the same level as Scout or Rivals. Strikes me as a little odd.
A little odd, yes. However, I love getting info for free when people subscribed to Scout and Rivals are paying for it.
I have a feeling they're paraphrasing "premium" info from Rivals and Scout.
I don't have a problem with it. Paying for a bunch of bullshit adjectives about high school kids from old midgets like Tom Beaver is fucking creepy.
I'm not sure how I feel about it - on the one hand, it does creep me out that people make a living by telling fans where high school kids will go to college. On the other hand though, it IS the analysts' job, and someone passing along that info for free could cut into their bottom line.
yay Rivals!
Edit: This was supposed to be a reply to philgodrink.
every fan nowadays follows recruiting, and there's no harm or nothing creepy in getting detailed info on some of the Michigan recruits...plus its not only recruiting but also Michigan football that rivals and scout cover in general
Yay..Tom Beaver blows boys...(Only opinion/joke, not a factual statement, therefore this is already an affirmative defense to Libel and Defamation!!!)
Chillax, man; the bar exam was last week, right?
Also, I hate to break it to you, but you're wrong about that. There are 3 affirmative defenses to defamation, and they are: consent, truth, and privilege. An affirmative defense by definition requires a defendant to first prove his defense before shifting the burden to the plaintiff to disprove it. I've never heard of a defendant "proving" that a statement was a joke. What would you do, bring in Jerry Seinfeld as an expert witness?
Statement of opinion is a defense, not an 'affirmative defense', to defamation. It's a matter of our reasonableness to conclude you know what you're talking about with the pedo allegation.
Also...I just bookmarked 'The De-commit'. Cool beans.
I agree it's creepy, but let's be honest, how many of us would love to have a job that involves driving around the country watching High School games and running camps. Sign me up! Plus High School girls duh.
That last part was a joke.

Eh. I love college football but have never been a fan of high school football, even when I was in HS a few yrs ago. To me watching high school practice, taking notes and what not would be boring. However to each their own.
I noticed this about a week ago, too. The first post that I can find is from July 28th.
from the michigan rivals board. he's just paraphrasing stuff as someone already said
Word. Every bit of news that comes out on Rivals or Scout shows up there a day or two later. I'm not going to reference it in the future.
... thedecommit reads a lot like the voice overs of the narrator in the show Gossip Girl.
"Guess a certain someone from a certain somewhere may have plans to visit a certain someplace... etc" I was actually reading a couple posts on there while my wife was watching that show and the parallel amused me.
Hopefully they're not just stealing and repurposing. Premium sites have a right to their content.
Dude...it's not a bad show, alright?
Consider your fluency in gossip girl noted.
