per Sam Webb, Touchdown Tyrone has been offered the RB Coach position on the staff. He is discussing the opportunity over with his family, so we should have resolution on the staff soon! Come home Tyrone!

Had to chime in with my Tyrone Wheatley story.  The year was 1990....  (dream/swirl effect)  We played Robichaud in the first or 2nd round of the HS playoffs.  TW was a senior - I was a lowly sophomore.

We had a few injuries at MLB late in the year and as a small team to begin with - I was charged with backing up the guy nicknamed "Psycho" at MLB.  Psycho was a captain, beast and never, ever, ever, ever, came out of the game...  Until Robichaud!

Middle of the 2nd quarter, he tweaks his ankle and comes limping off...  Coach grabs my by the mask and tells me to get in there.  I've got to call the defense and I've got all these older guys looking at me with a mix of  "Oh God this can't be happening - to Hang in the little guy"...

Robichaud staff was smart enough to know exactly what to call - power up the middle.  Ball is snapped - TW gets the hand-off...  It's like the parting of the Red Sea...  All I see is the huge hole and TW headed straight for it.    Stepped up to fill the gap and....

Now this is the part of the story where I have my legacy moment - "Stuffed TY in the hole for a loss" RIGHT???  Wrong.

Stepped up to make the tackle and the first thing I recall was TW's knees cracking me repeatedly in the face-mask and he powered up field.  I held on for dear life - after a gang tackle (of which I was the very bottom of the pile) - I felt like I had been hit by a truck.

Thankfully, the guy who helped me up was kind enough to realize what he had just done.  TW pulled me up and gave me a tap on the helmet.  Psycho's ankle was apparently just fine, or at least good enough to play...  and I was thankfully spelled.

Coaches had fun in the film room the next day...  Played that clip over and over - just watching my head rocket back as TW knees just kept moving...  I still get a chuckle out of it.

Come Home Tyrone!

What an excellent memory! So did you play for Marine City or Lutheran North? I was on that team with Wheatley and don't worry... He did far worse to a lot of people! Greatest athlete I've ever known by far and still a good friend today. And I like to think I had something to do with the "parting of the red sea". I was a starting lineman on that team! It was a privilege to see what he could do, but we were still had a lot of other talent too.
