Stadium Music and losses

Submitted by marc_from_novi on
Is it just me or has the piped in music gotten annoying during this losing stretch? Early in the season I really liked it. Loved it actually. Now I am not so sure.

The girls that sat behind me were cute to start the season, and on Saturday they were just annoying. It's not just the piped in music that has becoming questionable with losses.

It would be closer to tolerable if they used it a bit more sparingly, and in specific situations rather than playing random songs in the second half during breaks. It more often than not upsets a cheer that is just being started in the student section. It seems they finally figured out to cue up the actual beginning of the song rather than play the whole 40 second intro to "Lose Yourself".

Personally, I think the AC/DC, Welcome to the Jungle stuff works well. But kept playing that annoying techno music it was kind of pissing me off. I'm curious to know what the players think

I couldn't agree more. I find the piped-in music to be the worst change to Michigan football. It's like minor league baseball now with this nonsense. I hated the AC/DC, GnR, Eminem. The Neil Diamond? Ugh...even worse. Then, the techno music? It makes me long for the Eminem. Aren't we better than every other stadium in the country? Is there any reason we have to play the same garbage? I've read about the difficulties of wiring the band for sound, but why not at least use original music if we have to pipe anything in?

I like the welcome to the jungle, and the ac/dc and especially like the white stripes and eminem, they just play it at the worst times. The techno is horrible though, I wouldnt mind a little more Kid Rock or some Nuge.

We're on a losing streak so give up with the music? I personally like the music, it wakes the fans up. I been to only one game but I forgot, do they play music during t.v timeouts? Because in the past I HATED T.V TIMEOUTS!! Sitting there quietly for 2-3minutes, listening to the stadium music is great. The students get into it.

haha. Actually, one of them had on faded neon blue windbreaker style from the early 90s pants that I remember from earlier in the season. The same girl kept asking people if they knew the name of one of the characters from the cartoon Doug. After Purdue recovered the fake onside kick and the girl said, "If we just think good thoughts they will do better" and "[I] should not be so negative" I openly wondered why god hated me.

Why does every football team -- pro and college-- always play AC/DC's "Hell's Bells?" Don't get me wrong, it's a great song but every frickin team plays it. There are a ton of other great adrenaline pumping music out there. Maybe that's my new calling. "Professional STadium Music Picker" Guy?

They just need better speakers. The system they have in place just sounds awful. I think the concept of the music is not the worst thing in the world, if they could just do it well. The poor quality of the sound coming out of the speakers, especially the ear-splitting, grating, screeching treble actually embarrassed me. If they put a good system in, the music will sound good, and it won't seem like such a horrible thing.

The fact that they brought out Ain't No Mountain High Enough this weekend cemented for me that the music is not intended to be something to pump the crowd up at key plays. I have a big problem with the piped-in music on many fronts. It just strikes me as hopelessly lame in the context of Michigan Stadium. We're the leaders and best, let's start acting like it. Also, ditch the Thunderstruck and bring back the Let's Go Blue drum cadence, unless Athletics is willing to employ the Sparty-laser-eye graphics on the scoreboard so we can steal from MSU for real. That's been their tunnel entrance music for like 15 years.

We are the leaders and best...absolutely! If we want piped-in music; let's do it as leaders and in the best way possible. Neil Diamond? Techno? Why not use our drums (or a number of other drum-heavy tracks) instead of Eminem? Can't we be original? For me and the alums of my generation (the Fab 5 era), this piped-in music is shameful.

I haven't been to a Michigan game since Penn State 98. I went to MSU-Penn State today, sat in the South End zone under the f****n speakers, which I swear are the same ones the psy war guys blasted at Manuel Noriega during the Panama War. The piped in music sounds like shit. It gives college football the feel of arena football. Welcome to the jungle, Ring of fire, la de da. It's so damn loud the marching band sounds ridiculous cause your ears are numb. I was hoping that Michigan hadn't gone this route, cause I was thinking about going back if the remodeling removed the feel of a Cincinnati Who concert waiting to happen. Too bad. Oh, Penn State brought a pep band. They played Seven Nation Army.

More awful choices today. I die a little inside every time I hear Shout and Apache in Michigan Stadium. Let's leave this experiment with the disaster that was the rest of the 2009 season.
