Red Berenson's Speech at US Hockey HoF Induction

Red Berenson was inducted into the US Hockey Hall of Fame yesterday. On going to Michigan, which was very strongly discouraged by Montreal: "...I felt like I was doing it my way, and I was doing it the right way...."

He even finished under the 10 min limit.

The real injustice here is that they held the ceremony in Nashville.

I mean, it's bad that it's the South, but what eats me is that it should be held at the actual US HOF in Eveleth, so that I could have gone.

Oh well. I presume I'll get to go see his plaque.

This is a good speech, by the way. It's funny to hear the respect he has for guys like Mason and Parker and York. I resent those guys as a fan, of course, but they're all in the same business. hearing him talk about the growth of college hockey is fun.

He discusses his indifference to returning to the NHL, talking about how eventually there's enough money and it's what you do that matters. He's certainly proven that--I don't believe he was ever that well-paid at Michigan (in fairness, Jim Hunt once said that Red still had the first nickel he ever owned) but he did well enough.

I can't think of one better, I'm just wondering who the asshats were at the end who didn't join in the standing ovation for that speech. Red is a true Michigan man

My only tiny disappointment here is that he isn't wearing "The Unit" on his plaque.

*-This is a deep inside baseball, well, inside Michigan Hockey, joke.
