Out of Towners trying to tailgate this weekend.

Submitted by MGoPietrowski on

Some of you may have seen my posts/comments on here before and find it redundant for me to alert you that my friends and I are from Southern Indiana. My dad went to UM and I am, yes, a Wal Mart Wolverine. However, instead of wasting my time trying to convince you all of just how much I love Michigan football, I'll get to the point.

My buddies and I head up to Ann Arbor once a year (It's kind of our own pilgrimage to Mecca) to catch a game in the Big House. This year we are trying our hardest to get in a legitimate tailgate.

This is where I call out to the MGoCommunity for help.

1. What time can we park at Pioneer? What does it cost? What time do you suggest getting there?

2. I know this seems crazy, but do any of you feel like hosting four guys from out of town at your tailgate? We come with our own grill, food and cooler stocked full of beer. I guess we're just looking to meet some new Michigan fans (I think we've found just about every one of them hiding out down here in Evansville.) My email is [email protected]. Please don't send me any pictures of your member.

Please let this UM fan know what you guys know. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you want a great tailgate experience get to the Pioneer lot that runs parallel to Stadium around 7:30, maybe 7.  Everyone down there has a tent and the entire tailgaiting package.  So much fun down there and everyone is so nice and friendly.  That's where I usually try to park when I go up there.  It's a little bit more expensive, like $30-$40, but the 3 minute walk to the Southwest Entrance on Main and the experience makes it worth the money.

Pioneer is $40, and in my opinion way overpriced. We used to park at pioneer and they would let us choose a spot, now it is too strict.

Just remember tailgaiting is what you make it. In my experiences its hard to plan a perfect tailgate they just kind of happen. Good food and good beer help.

I don't mean to hijack your thread but we are traveling up from Cincinnati, OH and had a question.  What time does the golf course open?

I believe in years past, it was 8am but I just wanted to make sure.  We are leaving around 4am...

Web site says 8, but we called the course itself for last week's game and they told us 7:30.  When we got there at 7:40, there were already a lot of people in there, so I'd imagine they open a little before 7:30 if people are there.

The east side(State St.) opens at 7AM.  That's the side that my crew is always on.   We usually have a group of 4 cars (at least)  and up to as many as 25 people in our group.  We have the usual beer pong, cornhole, washers, and food.  Our tailgate is referred to as the "Jager Yearbook."  We can easily be spotted flying our Jager flag above our tailgate and a 5ft. tall inflatable Jager bottle on top of one of the vehicles.  The cornerstone is our Jager dispensing cooler that attracts the masses.  Feel free to stop by and peruse the happenings and goings on this Saturday.

AGE?

I prefer parking on the golf course for $30 because of the grass and through a football around on cement doesnt enjoy me. Usually where ever we park after everyone gets a few beers in them tailgates seem to merge together.

If it's open, the golf course (UM or AAGO) is where it's at.  Lots of space and beautiful scenery.  I recomend the UM golf course b/c its $30 instead of AAGO ($40) and there is more space.  Get to either 4 hours ahead of game time.

You haven't found all of us in Southern Indiana yet. I'm about an hour Northeast of Evansville and headed up for the opener this year.

Just to keep it on topic, we parked on the back side of Pioneer and it was a good time. It was a 3:30 game and we got there around 10 or so. We even had our choice of parking spaces, and were able to pull straight out after the game was over. It was a bit expensive at $40, but that's just my personal thoughts.

My brother (who is currently in FL) and I usually make at least one trip to Ann Arbor a year, so I know how you feel with the drive. Have fun and Go Blue!

like you, we're from far away and only do one game per season.  the golf courses - either UM's course or AAGO - these are our crew's favorite options.  more scenic and more unique experience than lined up in rows on an asphalt parking lot like at Pioneer.  if it rains too much they will close the courses, however.  when that happens 1500 cars or more are all scrambling for an alternative.  this happened for ND couple weeks ago, so watch the weather and the board.

this group provides reserved spots on AAGO golf course in advance - you can pay by credit card and print your  ticket at home and you're in, as long as the course is open.  it also provides you some alternative spots.  http://www.parknparty.com/?module=Lots&event=City&city=3

if not on the golf course, we like the smaller private lots along the south side of Scio Church road directly behind the Pioneer football field.  they are $20 instead of $40 or $50 but the folks and atmosphere are really fun.  we were down there for ND this year and ended up next to a big group of 7 vehicles from Adrian and had a blast.

suggest you immediatly go around and introduce yourselves to the groups around you as soon as you park.  everyone's super friendly but if you hang back they will assume you want to be left alone, so set the tone and be sociable.  have a great time, jelus.

While a detest the word Walmart Wolverine, if your dad went to UofM, the so-called definition of that word clearly does not apply to you.

Also, both suggestions of Pioneer and Golf Course are good.  I would lean towards the Golf course myself.

Be not afraid of the Wal-Mart Wolverine tag.  I wear it with pride.  Fuck people who take pride in the fact that nobody who isn't directly affiliated with their shitty school would ever want to root for it.
