OT: WDIV reporting Ausmus will be fired at end of season

Submitted by BlueCube on

Bernie is reporting as breaking news that a team official has confirmed that Avila and Illitch want a new manager and Ausmus will be fired at the end of the season.

I would have been more surprised if he stayed.

Everyone likes to say he did more with less. Since when is having Hunter, Mauer, Morneau, Cuddyer, Jones, Punto, Span, Santana, Liriano, Nathan, Romero, Rincon, Mulholland, Radke etc... having less? Those teams were young but completely loaded with talent, playing in a dumpster fire of a division. Yet they never made a run in the playoffs. If you ask me, as loaded as those teams were Gardenhire under achieved.

That's like saying we had Phil Coke and Don Kelly.  They went about as far as they should have considering the talent.  They were better than any team in the Central, save for the White Sox, but they were never more talented than the Yankees or Red Sox, maybe even the Angels.

No one going to point out that Bernie straight up stole this story from Detroit Sports Rag and passed it off as his own exclusive? He's a thief.

You have no idea what you are talking about. They don't report that much breaking news. Most of the ones they do are correct and the stories are very big. They don't get credit for it because they are an enemy to the MSM.

They reported that Brandon would be fired on twitter and even got the correct time of the press conference. Reported Rick Carlisle was going to be fired in 2003 when the rest of the world thought that would be insane. It's probably still the best sports scoop anyone has had in this market in the new millenium.

It's not about standing up for anyone, it's about correcting a blatantly false statement (which I do all the time). For someone who hates him so much, you sure have deep knowledge of his old predictions. Interesting.

You are more than welcome to cite all the shit he threw up against the wall and got wrong. You won't find much.

Well then anyone who brings up wrong reports like they are representative of what he does is showing their ignorance. Most of his scoops are with media news, where he has an extremely strong track record.

And I personally know his UM source, who is VERY well connected at the university. I don't remember a concrete report that Moeller was joining the staff but if it was mentioned, you can bet that it was at least being discussed behind closed doors. Probably just too much of a risk to go forward with considering the drinking problems.

That's the problem when you're a shitty human being like Jeff Moss.  You don't get the benefit of the doubt.

I retract my joke comparing him to the twitter prediction trolls.  He's just an asshole who has been right a few times and wrong a few times. He is also probably right this time.

His act is his act and it's not for everyone (much easier to digest if you're a Howard Stern fan, clearly a big influence on him). I can see why people easily mistake him with someone who uses ChatSports type scoops for attention but that's simply not what he does.

It's not exactly shocking news. I'd say it was more likely than not since Dombrowski was fired. If he stole it from DSR he is a very slow reader since it's been there for a couple of days.

You are also assuming he's one of the few people paying attention to DSR. I think Bernie is pretty worthless and still living off worn out blooper segments.

I don't think many people pay attention to either of them however if Tiger sources are talking it's likely that it's not only with DSR.

There has been speculation on Gardenhire for a long time. To say he will be the manager if contract negotiations don't break down is about like saying the sun will be in the sky tomorrow unless it isn't.

the expected firing of Ausmus and the subsequent hiring of someone qualified to manage at the MLB level.

(Soon?) Hello Gardenhire!

I can't believe people are seriously calling for Gardenhire! We should be pushing the boundaries of analytics not falling back even further. I would rather have Acta or anyone with a numbers background.

Sounds fine to me, man.

Al Avila is doing it by the way. Promoted the team's head of analytics from the basement to his #2 and has a number cruncher for the Houston Rockets working as a consultant. Gardenhire won't jibe with that but your manager being into analytics is less than half the battle.

While I agree with you that Gardenhire isn't a hire that would bring more analytical thinking to the field. But there is much more to managing than just knowing when to bring in a reliever. Dealing with egos and almost all the stuff we don't see is very important. I always felt Gardenhire got the most of all his players when he was managing. There is something to be said for having a team that plays 9 innings no matter the score. But this is all moot if they can't put a respectable pen together and get another top 3 starter.
