There's nothing quite like going to a baseball game and paying $8.50 for a beer.
But seriously the Tigers need to do work in this series.

Like the lineup for tonight,
Jackson, Boesch, Young, Cabrera, Martinez, Avila, Peralta, Betemit, Raburn.
I like that he finally moved Avila up in the order, and Raburn has started to hit the ball well enough to be a feasible 9th hitter.
August 19th, 2011 at 7:35 PM ^
Yes, Raburn has been hitting the ball better lately but he is such a defensive liability I cannot stand seeing him in the lineup at all

With Guillen hurt, and Rymes still back in Toledo we don't have much of an option outside of Santiago (where you trade defense for offense).

to bat leadoff the way he has been swinging the bat lately. he either pops out on the first or second pitch or strikes out

40 pitches for Tomlin through 4. MUST work the count up.

Jackson.. Bomb to left-center. Tigers up 2-0

Shame Scherzer gave up a run. First off looks like it was a missed called third strike, then Miggy stumbles because he can't quite make up his mind what to do as he jumps to his feet, then they just missed getting the runner out at the plate on the wild pitch.
August 19th, 2011 at 9:23 PM ^
That was an incredibly poor missed 3rd strike, even for Joe West standards.
August 19th, 2011 at 9:28 PM ^
It was a terrible call but Avila did a poor job of framing the pitch, he was kinda turned sideways and reached for the ball a bit. No excuse though it was a terrible call

jacks for Avila and Peralta.

Back to back homers!!!

Peralta does his best impression of Shannon Hogan's bra. He lifts and separates.
Two pitches, two bombs.
August 19th, 2011 at 9:17 PM ^
Tigers following former great Oriole manager Earl Weaver's formula; Good pitching and a 3 run bomb
August 19th, 2011 at 9:20 PM ^
Well, instead of the 3-run bombs, we'll happily settle for 3 bombs.

I feel like every game with this team I go from thinking we're a lock to win the division to thinking we don't have a chance about 10 times
August 19th, 2011 at 9:30 PM ^
I think we all do that about once or twice an inning, depending on when Raburn bats and Penny pitches.
August 19th, 2011 at 9:38 PM ^
How in the hell did Boesch not get to third on the single from Young with 2 outs

two million?

Too many balls hit to the warning track tonight. Lynn Henning is going to write another column about why they need to bring the fences in by 50 feet.

Anyone else think Leyland deserves major props for his handling of the pitching staff? Supposedly Scherzer and Penny are throwing as hard or harder than they have thrown all year. Porcello has been handled well since his rookie season. I don't remember a starter missing a start this season, which is part good fortune and part good handling by management. Benoit and Valverde are pitching great in tandem, as the Tigers weathered Benoit early season struggles. I gotta give Leyland a solid A+ for his handling of the staff

Tiger's twitter account says that Dirks has been optioned to Triple A to make room for Brandon Inge. um WHY????
August 19th, 2011 at 10:04 PM ^
because they can't send Mags down and they want Inge for late inning D and as emergency catcher
August 19th, 2011 at 10:19 PM ^
They're going to need a catcher for more than emergency purposes, and soon, because they can't have Avila catching 20 games in a row, and I don't think Martinez is ready yet.
I don't get this one.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:31 PM ^
but these guys are pro athletes and Avila may be young but you rarely ever see catchers like him miss many games, like brian McCan. these guys love to catch and it does take a toll throughout the season but Avila is in really good shape and V-mart has been helping him out with staying the course. wouldnt mind him getting a few off days though we should have brought up omir santos for a couple games not kringe. i dont understand why they trade for betemit who knocks in runs and actually hits just to sit him for don fucking kelly who is terrible at baseball then bring up the guy who is the reason we traded for him.
August 19th, 2011 at 10:33 PM ^
Dirks will be back up soon. Where were Dirks AB's going to come from. Young, Jackson, and Boesch are going to play the majority of games. Kelly can somewhat do what Dirks does.
I like the idea as Inge as a late game defensive replacement. He is definitely a step up from Betimit. It's not a great roster move but overall I think it is best for the team.
