OT: Omar Sharif, 1932-2015

Submitted by Hotel Putingrad on

We lost one of the great, old-school movie stars today. "Sherif Ali" was 83, which I found particularly poignant, since it's the same age as my dad, with whom I have watched so many of his roles.

R.I.P., Yuri Zhivago.

The memory trigger that pops for me goes way back to the early 1970's and a column in the daily paper about the card game bridge.  Apparently, Omar was a world-class bridge player.  The column was called "Bridge with Omar," or something like that.  I have memories of graphics showing various clubs and spades and whatnot, and me not understanding a word of it.  I'd then move on to the comics.
