Michigan WBB beats Illinois, 70-57

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

In a game that was dominated by turnovers (40 combined), Michigan won a game that they led by double digits for most of the game and led the entire game.

With the win, the Wolverines moved to 13-6 and 5-3 in the B1G. They are now in a 4th place tie in the standings with Rutgers.

Freshman phenom Katelynn Flaherty led Michigan with 21 points and FIVE 3-pointers.

Another day at the office for Cyesha Goree. Yet another double-double with 19 points and 14 boards.

Michigan's schedule will now get very tough. Tonight was their first home game in 15 days.

They face #5 Maryland on Thursday night at Crisler. The Terps have not lost a B1G game so far at 8-0 and 17-2 overall. Then, just 3 days after that, they head to #15 Nebraska who currently sports a 15-3 overall record.

That's 3 games in a span of 7 days.

After that long stretch of games, they head to state for the rematch a week from Thursday on 2/5. Michigan beat them at Crisler Center, 74-65, back in early January. sparty is awful this year. However, Michigan was blowing them out in that game at Crisler by more than 20 points and they wound up making it a game down the stretch.

After that road stretch, Michigan returns home to face a most likely ranked Rutgers team that Michigan lost to the week after that win over state. Flaherty did not have a good game, so I expect her to come firing against the flagship school from her home state of NJ.

Also-

The most recent bracketology still hasn't changed for Michigan. They are projected as a 7 seed and projected to HOST NCAA Tournament games for the first time ever since Louisville is in their pod.

Louisville's KFC YUM Center will host Men's tournament games so the next highest seed in their pod will host the First and Second Round games.

I have to admire the dedication of The Borg / Voltron / Get Jim Harbaugh. You've dedicated a lot of time to negging everything that isn't football or basketball. I admire your dedication to being a dick. It can't be easy

Perhaps he did, but then again, it must be very difficult to decide which outift to wear to an MGoEvent generally, particularly if you're one of the resident trolls / less-than-useful posters. I mean, do you show up dressed as a Borg, or Spock, or Voltron.....the decision is a difficult one I am sure. My personal vote is Voltron. He needs to come dressed as Voltron so we know at an MGoEvent.

Good point.  During the night I had a couple of people come up to me and "out" themselves and trust me - I was like "so YOU'RE <insert user name>???"  The good news is that they were all people i really liked from the board so maybe he was there but just didnt identify himself cause he knew his reputation was less than stellar.

Come to think of it there was this one dude complaining constantly about the beer not being the right tempature, that the food wasn't prepared to his liking and that Brian, John U, Big Ed & Andy and Seth werent all that interesting.

I think he was there.

Sigh. I keep confusing that game with the location of the Men's with Maryland.

If you haven't noticed, the B1G now intertwines the Men's and Women's conference schedules.

The women play the same B1G schedule as the Men, except their single plays are the location that are opposite of the Men's.

So, next year, the Women will face Wisconsin at home like the Men did on Saturday, while the Men head to Madison to complete that rotation.

Essentially, the only thing not settled next year for either schedule is the entire non-conference slate and the dates of the B1G games which is a really important detail, but knowing the match ups a year in advance is a good thing.
