Michigan Spring Game will now be on April 4th at Noon
Read as: BTN pulls rug out from underneath the Lacrosse team.
Was originally set for April 11th with Battle at The Big House IV against Ohio State to take place afterwards. Now there will be no Lax, and the team loses out on exposure they'd get what with having the leftover fans from the Spring Game.
A shame. This year's team is gonna be VERY interesting. Last year was good for being a 3rd year team.
Not only does Lax get the screwjob from BTN, but us in attendance at the spring game will freeze our asses off. Last year was extremely cold and they're playing it the same weekend as last year.
Lacrosse game is the next day at The Big House against Rutgers.

This is a genius time to schedule the game. It's Easter weekend so there will be tons of people off from school/work.
February 3rd, 2015 at 3:45 PM ^
if your goal is to get people to the game. Students are off and people make other travel plans. That said, I am guessing that fan attendance is one of the last priorities in determining this schedule.

So school will still be in session. But the K-12 crowd would be out. Families can come into town without worrying about their kids missing a lot of school time.
February 3rd, 2015 at 3:14 PM ^
Will it be an actual game this year?
February 3rd, 2015 at 3:16 PM ^
Apparently in the past Harbaugh has played them with playground/NHL All Star rules where there are coaches and captains that pick teams and then they play a more or less real game.
February 3rd, 2015 at 3:24 PM ^
That was also how Hoke said he did things in the past as well. But it never happened at UM.
February 3rd, 2015 at 3:17 PM ^
Pam Ward is calling the practice game.
February 3rd, 2015 at 3:51 PM ^
being a game format like the old Blue vs. White. It seems that would be consistent with his competitive approach to everything. Hopefully, we now have enough depth at most positions and most people are healthy so that it can be done.
February 3rd, 2015 at 3:55 PM ^
You'd think his #1 goal is finding a QB, so having two of them on the field competing at the same time would be ideal.
February 3rd, 2015 at 4:07 PM ^
I assume there will be zero defense in the game this year.
February 3rd, 2015 at 4:13 PM ^
I could make up a reason, but I'm not going to. My brain was aware but not fully aware.
February 3rd, 2015 at 3:15 PM ^
but do we know what the practice uniforms will look like?
February 3rd, 2015 at 3:17 PM ^
The lax game has been on the 5th for at least a few days (I looked last week), double header with Rutgers EDIT: Although maybe they just deleted the date...
February 3rd, 2015 at 3:19 PM ^
Spring game was gonna be April 11th.
Michigan and OSU had a nice tradition of playing eachother after the Football spring game which always got a good crowd. Michigan's largest crowd in their program history thus far was 2012 with almost 5,000 people.
So much for that. Even if they move the game with Rutgers the day after the spring game back a day, not as many people will stay and I doubt it'd be televised.

So what? I've been to a few of the Spring "games" over the last decade and the number of students has been dwarfed by the number of obvious non-students (i.e., old fucks like me, families with kids, etc, etc.)
February 3rd, 2015 at 3:39 PM ^
That the players you watch on the field are students too, and probably need that time at the end of the year for exams.
February 3rd, 2015 at 3:56 PM ^
Well then God forbid we should ever advance to the post-season playoffs because all that practice time isn't congenial to studying for finals.
February 3rd, 2015 at 4:00 PM ^
The practice time between exams in mid December and the games on NYE and the week after? Yeah, you aren't making a good arguement.
February 3rd, 2015 at 3:47 PM ^
I think he was talking about student/athletes here. They need to prepare for finals too.
February 3rd, 2015 at 3:43 PM ^
In defense of the AD and football staff, I'm pretty sure no other no other fanbase needs any football sooner than our fanbase. Last year was mostly a waste as far as hope for the future is concerned, we need something material to cling to ASAP.

Already got my flight up there for the Spring Game and the 5k. There is a 5k scheduled for the day after the spring game as well.

Now I'm gonna have to stay overnight at a friends the night of the spring game.
Makes no sense to come to A2, leave and then come back the next day for the Lacrosse game.
Season ticket holder and I don't plan on missing a game.

The troubles in your life
February 3rd, 2015 at 3:52 PM ^
Today on MGoBlog, we discuss a guy walking 21 miles to work, and the injustice that WD has to crash on a couch because he doesn't want to drive to A2 again to watch a college lacrosse game.
This is the world we live in.

Wait you commute?
Damn you're missing out....
February 3rd, 2015 at 3:28 PM ^
even if I have to freeze my ass off. The last time I was at a spring game I was in grade school and Bo was still the coach. They played a real game.
And thus began my love of all things Michigan.
February 3rd, 2015 at 4:07 PM ^
I kept going but eventually got bored because the scrimmages were snoozers. But I'm obviously going this year because....you know, Harbaugh.

I remember that too - I think the daytime high in 2002 or 2003 was close to 80 degrees, but April being April, the next week it was pretty brutal an crisp with high not much above 45 or so. The historic averages for the start of April are highs in the low 50s, I believe, and if we really are in a cooler period as they claim, we could still be up for a nice late season ice storm. Who knows.
I'll take the 80 degree day again personally.

There hasn't been an actual game since 4/14/2001 when John Navarre led the White team to a 21-7 victory over the Blue.
Here is every spring game result since 1990. Notice the lack of results for most of them. You have no idea how long it took to assemble the complete history of spring games. Countless hours of searching news archives and old papers.
- 4/21/1990: White 31-6
- 1991: Cancelled due to field conditions
- 4/11/1992: White 14-12
- 4/10/1993: White 21-20
- 4/9/1994: White 10-6
- 4/8/1995: White 45-44
- 1996: Cancelled due to field conditions
- 4/12/1997: White 22-20
- 4/18/1998: White 20-17
- 4/19/1999: No score kept
- 4/15/2000: White 23-22
- 4/14/2001: White 21-7
- 4/13/2002: No score kept
- 2003: Cancelled due to field conditions
- 4/10/2004: No score kept
- 4/16/2005: No score kept
- 4/10/2006: No score kept
- 4/14/2007: White 42-41 (scrimmage)
- 4/12/2008: No score kept (held at Saline HS)
- 4/11/2009: No score kept
- 4/17/2010: Blue 49-37 (scrimmage)
- 4/16/2011: Blue 14-7 (scrimmage)
- 4/14/2012: Blue 17-0 (scrimmage)
- 4/13/2013: No score kept
- 4/5/2014: No score kept

Wow, Blue had a pretty bad 20 year run there.

Lacrosse update:
According to the schedule on OSU's website, Michigan will apparently play them the day AFTER they were originally scheduled to play, after the spring game. Michigan vs OSU will be Sunday, 4/12 at 2pm at Michigan Stadium.
So, unless Michigan pushes the Rutgers game back a day, no Battle at The Big House this year.
