Michigan providing some students with free CCHA championship tickets?

Submitted by goblue7612 on

Sorry that this isn't about Michigan bball, but I got an email earlier tonight from the Michigan hockey program saying:

"The Michigan Hockey program would like to thank you for your tremendous support throughout the entire hockey season - it is greatly appreciated!

We understand that you attended more than 80% of the games at Yost this season.  Therefore, Michigan Hockey would like to show our appreciation by sending you a special invitation to attend the CCHA Championships in Detroit, MI on Friday (3/18) and Saturday (3/19).

We would like to provide you with a complimentary ticket to each night."

This is my sixth year with student hockey tickets, and I've never seen such a promotion before, and have attended >80% of games each year. Has anyone else seen such a promotion previously? How many student hockey ticket holders got this email? Did some who didn't attend 80% of games get this email also? I was just stunned to see this email, but am thrilled that they'd thank us for our support in such a way.

i easily went to all the home games each of the last 2 years (08-09, 09-10) and never got an email like that. maybe the joe is subsidizing so the stands will be full for the semis?

I got the email and emailed back to take advantage of it. I think you needed your tickets scanned at every game, as I know a few people who didn't get it via this problem. Hope this helps.

I immediately checked my email after reading this. I think the only game I missed was the U-18 game. Super excited about this.

Also, I might need a ride. I don't think any of my friends are going to the Friday night game and I don't have a means of transportation to Detroit. I'll start a thread later this week if this is the case. Hope we can get a good group of people from Ann Arbor to show our support.

Oh no...

Anyone who missed a few games know if it's still valid? I know it says 80% but I went to every game save maybe a single weekend when I had to go home for one reason or another, and I haven't gotten the email yet :(

I'll hold out though. This is freaking awesome if so.

I don't know what they count as home games, but there were 21 home games including the Big Chill, Western Ontario, and the US NTDP games. The email says "at Yost" so I'm not sure the Big Chill counts, nor do I know if the two exhibition games count (to correct my earlier post, I missed the Western Ontario game as well). If you miss a few games, you aren't getting an email. I know a lot of people who went to most of the games, but did not get an email, which sucks.

I'm curious to what the number of tickets they are giving is just to see from a loyalty stand point. How many fans actually did go to 80+%?
