Michigan-ND rivalry renewal prospects "trending up" !

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

This is blowing up on twitter. Brian Kelly mentioned it on Rich Eisen's show.

The good Brian's take on this-

if Jim Hackett gets the ND series back on it's time to start talking statue

We may have broke up but that was just an opportunity to bang your mom now.  She lets me do things to her you couldn't do to a barn yard animal.  Really freaky.

She's over here right now riding me as a matter of fact internet tough guy.  She also told me to tell you to put down the keyboard and go to bed.  It's past your bedtime.

you really are full of hate.  Your life must truely suck  I feel bad for you.  You are the internet tough guy.  You commented on a post that you had nothing to do with and then stated "bring it".  Wow, I haven't had that happen since high school.  Looks like when ever anyone challenges you, you use foul language and talk shit.  Are you even out of high school?  Bringing my mom into this tells me you must be very young.  Common comeback for a child.  You truely need help for your inferiority complex and self confidence issues

how screwed in the head you are, I see that you donw voted every post I ever made.  That takes along time and proves how much of an anger problem you have.  You need some serious help.  Hopefully you'll do us all a favor and off yourself before your kill someone due to your anger.  If I don't see any further posts from you, I'll take it you did us the favor of ending your life.

ND cancelling this series was a blessing in disguise. I will acknowledge that it WAS a great rivalry but in today's era continuing it does not make much sense and renewing it would be a mistake.

For recruiting purposes it is simply smarter and more strategic to schedule home and home games with teams from the south/Texas/west. After all, there is a reason Harbaugh held the majority of his satelite camps in the south and not in the midwest. With ND off the schedule, Michigan now has an oppurtunity to take a satelite camp approach to non conference scheduling.

Speaking of which, I think Brandon did a decent job with the upcoming non-con schedule. Yes, the next four years are pretty lackluster with the neutral site game against Florida as the only highlight but Brandon was sucker punched by Swarbrick who cancelled the ND series with no notice leaving him to scramble for replacements. Brandon eventually got home and home games with UCLA, Washington, Texas, Oklahoma, and Virginia Tech. That's pretty good in my opinion. Would I prefer a home and home with Florida? Yes, but the chance of Florida traveling to Ann Arbor is minimal so I would gladly take a neutral site game with them over a series with ND. Think about it, if you are a recruit from Florida who grew up wathcing Florida or Florida State, do you honestly care about Michigan playing ND? Do you start to take a closer look at Michigan when they are playing Florida or Florida State? I think so. Swarbrick, when asked about cancelling the Michigan series, said something along the lines of "it makes more sense to play in Austin than it does in Ann Arbor." Michigan needs to adopt a similar approach.

I would be open to playing ND home and home 2 times a decade, but even then I think it's a waste. The oppurtnuity cost of a home and home with ND is a home and home against a school from California, Texas, Georgia, and Florida. Now, had the B1G remained at an 8 game conference schedule then I would be more inclined to renew the series since you would still have a slot for another marquee game. But with only three spots open, I find it hard to believe that you are going to see two marquee schools on the schedule moving forward. I know Washington and VT are scheduled in 2020 and 2021, but that was done by Brandon. Harbaugh now has input on the schedule and Hackett's most recent addition was Army, which functionally is worse than your typical MAC school. I think you will probably see one marquee game and two paycheck games in future schedules. Do you realy want this game to more often than not be ND?

recruting wise you do bring up good points, but I think if Michigan wins, michigan will get the best recruits. Besides with 4 OOC games, 1 ND, 2 weak teams, and 1 P5 team should be doable. While it might seem like too daunting of a schedule, it seems as the overall trend in CFB is to play harder schedules and we really are at the point now, that one loss to a solid team will not kill your season.

The interesting thing would be if the B1G 10 adds a 9th conference game. Then I would agree and say that keep the ND game every 3,4 years.

I was pretty ticked off how ND blew us off and how they downplayed us being a rival at the time and pointed to other games as more meaningful.

I HATE ND. I would like to make them sweat and beg to get us back on their schedule.

I should care, but I really don't. They didn't seem like they wanted to play us, and they apparently value MSU and Purdue on their schedule above us. I would rather try to get an exciting home and away on our schedule with another powerhouse, but I trust the AD to do what he feels is best for Michigan.

Many here have come to focus on playoffs, bowls and national rankings, at the expense of the long colorful history unique to college football. The now ongoing discussions about forming the top 64 teams into their own organization with four 16 team groups each with two eight team sub-divisions to create a true playoff system is part of this same view. I say to all of you be careful what you wish for.

Take away the rivalries and you end up with a true semi-pro league feeding the NFL. You lose a large part of the reason that college football enjoys its current popularity. Do you want "The Game" to fade away to just another challenge on the way to the conference championship? If that happens Michigan football will be lessened.

Like it or not ND is a true rivalry, more so than MSU. It's easy to say that no one in a given region cares about the Michigan / ND game, but television ratings indicate otherwise.  Yes ND behaved badly in how they cancelled the series. This is nothing new. ND has always behaved badly.

Reinstate the series, so that eventually the teams play home and home two of every four years. Personally I'd prefer they play every year, but two in four will keep the rivalry healthy. That will be good for both programs and college football in general.

I knew once Dave Brandon resigned that it was matter of time before there would be talks of when Michigan VS ND was going to be back on. ND is in Big 10 Country not ACC country and there too chicken to be a member of the Big 10 and that is there lose you see ND needs the Big 10 more than the Big 10 needs ND overrated chickens.
