March Madness Returns (Virtually) - MGOBLOG style

Submitted by rice4114 on March 16th, 2020 at 4:44 AM

I saw a comment from someone earlier today that said he would like to at least see a sim to the tournament if nothing else. I decided to take it a step farther and pulled out my old College Hoops 2K8. I then found someone that had completed updating all the rosters for this season on Operations Sports.

I updated my game and watched the 89’ Wolverines play this years Minnesota team. Of course Glen Rice went off with 20 pts and Loy Vaught had 16 boards on their way to a 15 point win. I had a blast watching the entire game. The highpoint was when Higgins hit a back breaking 3 late in the game and did a little shuffle to entertain the crowd.

Short story long I am going to do an entire bracket. I will be placing the entire top 65 teams (they had 1 play in game back in 2008) from Kenpom. I will do my best to keep them where they would be. Kenpom will determine the seeding. The locales will be from 2008 with San Antonio being the home of the final four. Tomorrow I will list the entire bracket like they do on selection Sunday. Any suggestions would be helpful. I will be letting all the Michigan and final four games be played out entirely. Ill be simming the rest. Any ideas on how to share video and screen shots would be greatly appreciated. Hoping to keep this as close to the real thing as possible with daily recaps and maybe even Michigan game threads.

I get what everyone is trying to do. There are no sports for the foreseeable future so let’s do something, anything. But you can’t simulate March Madness, you just can’t. There is no replacing it, no consolation, and I am sad.

Stay safe and healthy.

John Oliver brought up this exact thing in his most recent (audience free) episode here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_066dEkycr4

It's ok to be pissed and sad and frustrated with the cancellation or postponement of so many things we love to do and watch. It's normal, and it's good to take time to acknowledge that this situation just plain sucks.

Nobody said this was a replacement, nor did anyone say its a consolation prize.  It's entertainment, if you choose to participate.  If you don't, great!  I probably won't watch any of it, but it'll interesting to follow because there's nothing else going on.

But instead of choosing to make the best of shitty situation, you decide to whine and cry about it.  Your sadness is a choice.  I miss it, too - the first round is the best four days of the entire year!  But I won't choose sadness over it, there are so many better things to be sad about...

Can I get a list of the approved things a person can be sad about. Definitely don’t want to make this mistake again.

March Madness is my favorite sports event of the year. It’s my holiday. Fuck the super bowl, fuck the World Series, the NBA is stupid, golf is boring, etc. none of it measures up to March Madness. It’s something that brings my friends and family together. So if I choose to be sad about it it’s my opinion and my right so go fuck yourself. Good day sir.

Since Duke and Kansas have already said they won't participate in anything, be sure to leave them out!

Also, any chance you can leave Gary Grant and Glenn Rice on Michigan's lineup card?

Would be great if MGoVideo would link to all his Michigan Basketball torrents. I'm currently relegated to highly compressed 720p YouTube replays.
