Lane Kiffin strikes again

Submitted by white_pony_rocks on
it seems that every couple of weeks news of another minor or secondary recruiting violation comes out of Knoxville. this week is no different http://www.facebook.com/ext/share.php?sid=99738060866&h=2XP-w&u=oL7Eo&r… im sure recruiting rules are numerous and some of them can be considered vague and can navigated carefully with loopholes, but how many strikes can a coach have until there are some significant repercussions? it should be like basketball, 5 fouls and you are out. 5 recruiting violations, no matter how insignificant they are and you lose a scholarship or 2.

Fair enough. However, I have always said that there is a difference between a typo and poor grammar. When someone says "I seen him catch that ball" it is obvious he meant to word his sentence in such a way. When someone uses the wrong word in a way that doesn't make sense, it's clear that this is a mistake, not poor grammar usage.

I really think this minor stuff gets overhyped because he is Lane Kiffin, the guy who shakes things up. A ton of schools probably have similar minor violations, self report them, and then move on with no one caring. As for whether Tennessee will be any good, eventually. In a few years, they will probably be near the top of the pack again with this kind of recruiting. If he causes too much trouble, they could just fire him and then the next guy could win with his recruits.

It has been good, but not amazing like many here have made it seem. Last year he wrapped things up well with Bryce Brown, but he didn't blow anyone away. This year he has 4 commits, 2 4's and 2 3's. Again, nothing big, in fact he might be a little behind. However, he has a verbal from an OL named Jose Jose. That makes up for a lot.

"And most importantly, Hamilton says, 'He has gotten Tennessee back on the map.'" Not by winning a single game, but by drawing media attention every time he opens his mouth and promptly inserts his foot. I think it shows the character of the program that they're so happy about simply being in the spotlight. The guy hasn't even coached a game yet, but he's said a bunch of stupid shit that brought attention to UT, and the AD is happy about it?!? “He’s not as cavalier as the media painted him to be.” That's great. I guess the AD has to support the guy at this point, but couldn't he make his support sound justified?

Look, Tennessee needed something. They have been on the brink of a complete talent collapse for years. Last year the offense bottomed out to historic lows. If Kiffin can run his mouth and get talent for Tennessee then good for him. GO VOLS!! Kick ass, Kiffin.
