LA Times article on Derrick Walton, Jr
Great article about his recent opportunity to make an impact with the Clippers as well as some of his backstory.

Just realized the article was from 12/16 and it’s super likely it was posted already... fingers crossed it wasn’t since we can’t delete our own posts?

I check the board quite regularly and don't recall seeing anything about this. I could have certainly missed it, but I think you're safe...

Thanks for posting this. It looks like even if Walton doesn't have a long playing career he is setting himself up for a coaching career down the line.
And I love the idea that coaches know that he has taken big shots in big games...

Doc said, “...he can make shots.” Sounds like he could carve out a Vinnie Johnson type role with the Clips even when their other guards get healthy

I really like Derrick Walton. His Senior year was special. Great guy too. Good to see him getting some significant NBA minutes.

Most stories about the Clippers go unnoticed in Los Angeles.

In retrospect, how important was it for some of these kids to stay a little longer in JB's system. Duncan, Caris, Derrick, THJr... All of them arguably better pros than everyone that left as Sophomores or earlier.
Who am I missing?

Side note: The first player mentioned in the article is "veteran guard Patrick Beverley". Why did that name sound familiar? Oh yeah, he was a former Michigan recruit we didn't land from the late Amaker era. I don't know whether we finished second for him or not, but I do recall him choosing Arkansas over his other choices because it reminded him of Chicago. Arkansas reminded him of Chicago. Yep. That's right. Fayetteville = Chicago.

Good for Walton! Injuries really kept his Michigan teams from achieving all they could have. He was valiant in that 2017 run to the Sweet 16! His ability to score should allow him to carve out a respectable NBA career. He's a high IQ, disciplined player. There's obviously room for him in the league.
