I think it is old news, but still good news none the less. i think this just might be the confirmation post. Im excited as hell for this kid. I think he will be one of the best in this class.
December 21st, 2011 at 12:29 PM ^
Bolden was expected along with Ringer and Jarrod Wilson

What does this mean for the total number we will take this year? I know it has probably been exhausted but since we are nearing the yearly cap on scholarships awarded, will it matter that three of them or maybe more will count toward the 2011 class? Also, how many can we slide into this class knowing that next year will likely be closer to 20 and maybe even in the teens for total number available?
December 21st, 2011 at 1:02 PM ^
I believe from hearing Sam Webb a few weeks back that we can take up to 28 guys this class; 3 for early enrollees and 25 regular commits. So with the three EEs we can then have 5 more guys slide in.
December 21st, 2011 at 3:55 PM ^
Jehu Cheeson makes 24 commitments, so we have room for 4 more assuming Ringer and Wilson are good to go.
December 21st, 2011 at 12:29 PM ^
This is old news, but confirmation doesn't hurt.
December 21st, 2011 at 12:37 PM ^
Someone's grumpy today...
December 21st, 2011 at 1:57 PM ^
You shouldn't of went to Jarred.
December 21st, 2011 at 2:23 PM ^
shouldn't have went to Jared........
better yet........
shouldn't have gone to Jared........
December 21st, 2011 at 12:30 PM ^
but why is this so exciting? Is it because he will be eligible for spring practices?
December 21st, 2011 at 12:33 PM ^
Yes, it means more time to adjust to schedule of college and the weight room, and the defensive scheme.
All good things in a freshman.
December 21st, 2011 at 12:33 PM ^
Yeah, I'd say that's probably the biggest reason. Also, he gets some time to adjust to college life without the pressure of the football season in full swing.
December 21st, 2011 at 12:34 PM ^
Exactly! He will get early reps and have a chance to earn playing time as a freshman. Judging from what i have seen, he is going to be a good one!
December 21st, 2011 at 12:54 PM ^
What everyone else said + we needed 3 early enrollees in order to get to the 28 we're aiming for in the class. Bolden, Ringer and Wilson will all enroll early.
Edit-People already explained below. This is why you should read the rest of the thread before replying...

That's a lot of exclamation points.
December 21st, 2011 at 12:36 PM ^
Sorry about that sir, i am overly excited about Bolden, and a potential commitment today!!!
December 21st, 2011 at 12:36 PM ^
I also think Michigan needs atleast 3 EE to get a class of 28, per Big Ten rules.
December 21st, 2011 at 12:40 PM ^
Per NCAA rules, actually.
You can only recruit 25 per year, but you can backdate as many EEs as you want to the previous year, as long as it doesn't put you over 25. The Big Ten rule limits the number 3 backdates, effectively capping your max class size at 28.
December 21st, 2011 at 12:44 PM ^
So I take it the SEC doesn't have the max 3 rule like the Big Ten?
December 21st, 2011 at 1:34 PM ^
They just recently added a rule like that. I don't remember the details, but I think it's a very similar deal.
December 21st, 2011 at 12:38 PM ^
Yeah, Bolden tweeted the other day that he was excited because he had his last day of high school. It's kind of a cool thing, but I kind of enjoyed my last semester of high school, too. I guess if you're trying to get to the NFL or be a star college player, then the sacrifice is probably worth it.
December 21st, 2011 at 12:51 PM ^
I think I'd have traded all four years of high school for one more semester at U-M. High School was fine. But college was great.
December 21st, 2011 at 1:02 PM ^
Don't get me wrong, I loved Michigan and would have loved another semester, but my last semester of high school was great too. Hockey season streched into the state playoffs, won a Lacrosse state title, prom, senior ditch day at Wrigley, all that stuff. Bolden gave up going to prom and other stuff that you get as a senior, but for him it was probably the right decision. I wasnt in his situation, so I dunno what I would have done.
/yes, college is sweeter than high school in hindsight, but he's 18, prom and random high school stuff was a big deal at 17/18 years old.
December 21st, 2011 at 2:51 PM ^
Wouldn't be Ferris Bueller?
December 21st, 2011 at 1:05 PM ^
My last year of HS:
English Lit
Lab Tech-Chem
Physics
Recess Aide
Dual enrolled in a college class w/ more hot chicks in that class than in my entire school...priceless for a 17 year old.
College>Highschool
December 21st, 2011 at 12:39 PM ^
Expected, along with Wilson and Ringer, but still good to hear.
December 21st, 2011 at 12:42 PM ^
Does anyone know how many EE's a team can have? Is there a limit?
December 21st, 2011 at 1:16 PM ^
I don't think there is a limit to how many can enroll early, but there is a limit to how many can count toward last years class. That limit is three, but I am not sure that there is a limit to how many can actually enroll early....but I could be wrong about that.
December 21st, 2011 at 12:51 PM ^
I'm pretty sure we have more than just Bolden early enrolling. Anyone know who the others are?
December 21st, 2011 at 12:57 PM ^
Yeah LB Kaleb Ringer and S Jarrod Wilson.
December 21st, 2011 at 12:53 PM ^
....to get a head start, right? Awesome news.
December 21st, 2011 at 12:58 PM ^
excited for this kid.
December 21st, 2011 at 1:06 PM ^
Anyone happen to see that interview with him done recently? I saw it on Freep.com
Well spoken kid. Truly sounds like a Michigan man. Very happy to have him on board.
