Jeffrey Godfrey has a clear #1

Submitted by Eric on
I'm not sure if anyone had posted this yet. I couldn't find anything. This is from rivals.com
"(Michigan) did come through, I think Monday (after the camp) and my coach told me on Tuesday," Godrey reported. "After getting the offer I had made up my mind that was where I wanted to go, but I didn't make any commitment. "Right now Michigan is my No. 1 school and I am looking at them very hard. I am just waiting on them to recruit me a little more and just learn about the school a little more."

Yeah, he throws hard. I'm guessing he's going to be a 4 star. Offers from Florida State, Miami, Michigan and Tennessee. He's also in the rivals 250.

Taking into account he's still a junior in HS, does his size (5-11/167 lbs.) worry anyone? I think his offers tend to mitigate that somewhat, but do we know if he's being offered at QB or ATH from FSU, Miami, and TN?

size at QB does not matter. See Chase Daniels, Todd Reesing for example. Both are shorter than 6' and are successful in spread offense. Godfrey has the best arm out of anybody in '10 class. I think that he's 6' and 175 lbs so it's not that bad. If he is about 3 inches taller, he'd be talked about as the best QB in the country.

is a head case. he told the coaching staffs at clemson, oregon, and ohio state that he was coming the night before signing day. he and his father also tried to dictate what type of offense would be run at whatever school he went to. hence his de-commitment (i'm not so sure they didn't withdraw his schollie) from WVU and UT sending him away.

the kid has an offer from the canes. I went to his bit on youtube and it starts off with a minute straight of pics of former cane QB's. Should this bother me at all or should I not worry about that.

Godfrey loves the U and has made comments about it being his "dream school." Now I know that doesn't mean he's a lock but Canes' fans feel confident about him. However, this is catch, he is being recruited by them as an athlete and not as a QB. This has likely caused UM to move to the top of the list. Now if the U came through with a QB offer would that change things? Don't know but my guess is it would be a lot harder decision for him. (Again, this is not first hand, just what I have read off of various boards, including from Miami fans. If it's inaccurate, my bad.)

I was just watching godfreys youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26TfWOLRfhw Theres no question hes got a strong arm. He throws this one ball off of one foot, while scrambling that goes about 60 yards and hits the reciever nearly in stride. but they show a lot of clips of him over throwing recievers down field by significant margins. obviously its hard to know whether its a shitty video or whether that is a common occurrence for godfrey. nonetheless i love his potential, but i hope accuracy is not a major weakness for him b/c weve all seen the effects of qb's missing open recievers.

We managed to snag Denard with this, maybe Godfrey, and I think it will continue in the future. Most schools in the south will try and offer these players as athletes, but when Rodriguez offers them a chance to play QB this will continue to help in the future. That is true so long as the ATH's get legit shots at competing at QB. Denard Robinson will be a great testament to that, when he is the no 2 qb to start the year and will likely see meaningful snaps at some point during the season. If RR can continue to get one pure qb and another with ATH potential each year our depth should be strong in a couple years.

If they're offered to just play, and they have a specific position in mind and don't get it, will they be more likely to transfer? It makes sense to me that if you play a specific position, you wouldn't talk to a school that doesn't have an opening. But if a coach is telling you "We'll see" and you sign up, you'd be more inclined to walk if you're not going to get the spot you though you would. Sorry for the rambling.
