I guess this is a good time for me to tap into that Old Rip Van Winkle (25 Year) that I got for a present some years back. Can't imagine it'll be that good after 25+ years, but I'll give it a shot.

Happy birthday, Army! Shout out to my brother in the SF.

My buddy recommended Horse Soldier Bourbon.  It is a distillery comprised of veterans and the name is a tribute to those soldiers:

"Some of the employees at American Freedom distillery were among the famous Green Beret soldiers who fought the Taliban on horseback in the mountains of Northern Afghanistan. Their story was the subject of the 2018 movie “12 Strong.” The distillery's Horse Soldier bourbon is a tribute to those fighters."

I bought a bottle and it was the best bourbon I've had yet.

This makes me very very happy. Let me run my under the radar bottles from the last year by you (not all bourbons apologies)

Pinhook ryes/bourbons/barrel selects - High proof if you can get it. If you see a 4 or 5 on the label get it.

Penelope Cask Strength (four grain)

Cats eye light whiskey 140 proof+ This is like  creme brulee deliciousness and my whiskey of the year 2020

New Riff BOURBON single barrel at cask strength

Old Pepper rye - higher proof the better

Enjoy!

New Riff produces some really nice stuff.

I have gradually drifted to cask proof stuff.... which can be problematic it you don't adjust the size of your pours....

Wild Turkey Rare Breed,, Larceny Barrel Proof & 1792 Full Proof are three very good bottles, reasonably priced & fairly available.

I’ve tried to drink it and just can’t. Did the tours to all of the big ones and a few small ones. The history was awesome and I really enjoyed seeing each place especially Buffalo Trace and Makers. Sampled them all. A couple tasted less like warm fire and piss than others, but most were the same to me. I drank cold beers in the van after each visit.

Weller for me here in NC — which is a state I would say is tantamount to bourbon purgatory.  (I had to grab the Weller down in FL … nigh impossible to get here.)

Any and all Wellers welcome here!  I love Antique, but Special Reserve is just awesome by me.  Looking forward to trying William Larue Weller someday....

That's an awfully kind offer ... after all these years I don't even know how to PM on this site, but if I did I'd be hitting you up!  A handle would be fantastic.
