Fluff piece: UM heavyweight champ Mason Parris on "Live with Kelly & Mark"
This is an MLive article on UM heavyweight champ Mason Parris's visit to the TV show, "Live with Kelly and Mark." Many of you know that their son is on Michigan's wrestling team, and they're supporters of the team. Here, they giving Parris a platform to talk about his upcoming events and plans.
The article includes a 7+ minute video of Parris demonstrating wrestling moves on Consuelos, both in UM singlets.
... here they're giving...
[too much rewriting]
😅
I was actually stupid enough to get into the ring at 17 with my then 61 year old father. Disclosure: as a kid, he paid his law school books+tuition by rooftop prize fighting in Hell's Kitchen.
I didn't make it through the first round. I never saw it coming ...
Thanks, Dad! (Loved that man, I really did)
Illegal street fighting in Hell’s Kitchen in the (approx. 1940s) for money? I bet $5 your dad is named either Paddy, Seamus or Liam…
It was the 20s. Rooftops, not street. His nickname was Heshey, about 5' 3", southpaw, everybody, including me, thought they could take him (according to his childhood friends who I met as a teen) - and nobody could or did. I never saw it coming... 🙂
Pay the $5 to ADRDA. It's a very worthy cause, thanks. 👍
Not as cool as your dad HB, but at least rivaling those old style names like ‘Heshey’, my grandfather was apparently quite a scrapper. His given name was Milo, but was known as ‘Chummy’. When young, My dad would deliver beer to taverns in his town and occasionally hear, ‘oh, you’re chummy’s son. Toughest man in town’.
How big was the town? Was it, like, your family and two other families??? :-D
wiki says 164K population in 1940, which would be about the time.
Yeah, some of the "old timers" were solid as brick walls. Usually gentle guys that you'd *never* want to mess with. Different eras.
As an MGoBlog reader tidbit I'd give this six stars out of five.
Great exposure for the wrestling program
I hope he makes the Olympics. As the best college wrestler in the country, I'd say he has a shot.
