Enough with the Pat White
I don't know who will start at qb for Michigan, but everytime the question comes up we hear Pat White this Pat White that RR wants a running qb Denard will start blah blah blah. Follow the recruiting to get your answer. We are not recruiting 4 and 5 star Wr's to be good blockers. Pat White was a unique talent RR ran into the ground at WV. He has much more talent at his disposal to work with at Michigan from a recruiting stand point. the best offenses are usually the balanaced ones. Michigan's QB from this point forward will be able to pass and we will look more like Florida and Oklahoma then Pat White's WV. It may be Denard it may be Tate but they will need to complete passes to stay on the field.

They may have been the most balanced team in the history of college football. I'm putting myself out there for huge scorn as I haven't checked anything other than my memory, but I'm pretty sure they averaged over 200 rushing and receiving per game on the way to setting the scoring record.

Pat White could pass, he just didn't have 4 and 5 star receivers at his disposal. He's getting serious looks at QB from several nfl scouts for a reason. R.R. will take whatever he gets and go from there. That's what he's done his whole career.

Running something into the ground typically means that it became less and less successful before bottoming out. I do not think that happened.

EXACTLY. DICKROD IS A TERRIBLE COACH AND LUCKED OUT THAT PAT WHITE WAS SUCH A RIDICULOUS TALENT. IF ANYONE BESIDES RR COACHED PAT WHITE, THEY WOULD HAVE WON A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP EVERY YEAR THEY PLAYED.

R.R. Took what he had last season (ala threet and sheridan) and tried to go from there. The big thing is that he now has people who fit his system a little better than last year. I also believe that R.R. will find more people to fit his system at Michigan than at WVU (due to the whole prestige, noon game thing). Whether Pat White had 4 or 5 star receivers or not or whether Pat White could jump from the moon to save Earth from a meteor strike doesn't matter or compare to what we currently have hopes for this upcoming season. I agree with Ziff that the Pat White talk must stop and we need to start making "Forcier" or the "DR." a houeshold name.

The success of the WV program in the last two years of the RR era was opening doors on the recruiting trail that were nailed shut years before. Had RR remained at WV, his success would probably have ratcheted up his recruiting and resulted in a few more 4 (and 5) stars by now - probably at QB and possibly at WR. My point is that his offense would have evolved into a more balanced attack even had he remained at WV. Pure speculation, but reasonable.

I don't want Michigan to be what West Virginia was the last 7 years, and I don't think RichRod does either. No coach wants to be as one-dimensional as they were with Pat White, but he struggled to recruit the talent he wanted, and that's why they did what they did. It worked better for them than any other thing they could have tried. If Denard starts it's because he gives them the best chance to win in the coaches' eyes, not because RichRod strictly wants to run a 'running option.' I think Tate is going to start because he gives them that passing threat along with his outstanding athleticism, and he will also have the spring practice under his belt, along with being more groomed coming out of high school to begin with. But it wouldn't surprise me if they had some packages with Denard because I've heard he's wicked fast.

RR turned slow-footed Shaun King into a journeyman NFL QB while he had him at Tulane. He broke all of Tulane's passing records while he was there. This obviously isn't much, but it does show that RR will pass if he has the talent.
It is also why Momma's Boy Mallett's main complaint/excuse that he didn't fit in the offense rings hollow.

Shaun King had 633 rushing yards, averaging 4.1 yards per and 11 rushihg TD's 1998. He is not "slow footed" please stop saying that.

Pat White won 2 BCS bowls, 4 total bowls, and is the all-time leading rusher in NCAA history for a QB. (A) I don't see this as being run into the ground. NOT EVEN CLOSE. (B) I would love for RR to replicate that here. If we had a QB who won 4 bowls in his time at UM, 2 of which were BCS bowls, even if they aren't the MNC game, I would be pretty satisfied with that.
