Email alert for MGoBlog main page posts - take 2
I posed the question of how to receive email alerts whenever there is a new post on the main page yesterday. I received some helpful hints, but I haven't yet reached a solution. The two suggestions I followed:
1. Signing up for Twitter and following MGoBlog. I have done this. However, I am not receiving emails from Twitter when there is a new Tweet from Brian/MGoBlog. I know that text message alerts are available, but I do not want to receive text message alerts.
2. Subscribing to the RSS feed. I have done this. However, I do not want to use Yahoo's customizable homepage, Google Reader, or any other application. I would like to receive the RSS feed to my Gmail account, if possible.
Any help in solving my insignificant problem will be greatly appreciated.

1. twitter (and facebook) will not email you. it was suggested for the text notification.
2. you should have bumped your original post.

I rarely close the window with MGoBlog in it. In the event that the unthinkable happens, I've got it bookmarked in my Droid's browser.

It can be done, but it's a secret. No ad-click revenue if you hunker down in Gmail.

Sit at your browser and hit refresh every 5 seconds. Works perfectly.

You can get texts for main page postings? Please, tell me how. I supposed the info is somewhere on the site, but I've never seen it.

- Sign up for Twitter.
- Under account settings, add your cell phone and allow Twitter to send you text message notifications from people you've enabled for notifications.
- Follow MGoBlog.
- Enable MGoBlog for mobile notifications.
You will then get a notification every time the link to a main article goes up there.

I tried to +1 you for your help, but it won't let me for some reason. Thanks for your help!

You can acheive this using the Web Clips feature in Gmail (the news ticker that scrolls above your gmail Inbox in the Gmail web interface).

Remove all the other web clips and add http://mgoblog.com/fbfeed.

Try http://www.feedmyinbox.com/
I haven't used it personally but I suppose it's as close to a solution as you will find.
EDIT: this will send a once-daily alert, not on a per-post basis. Also, just in case you happen to use Outlook 2007, know that you can use it to subscribe to RSS feeds.
EDIT 2: another idea would be to set up an "as-it-happens" google alert for mgoblog. You would get all mgoblog updates plus any mentions of mgoblog around the web.
