She seems like a smart lady/mother. I'm guessing she's not as worried about the academic ranking of the school (although it can't hurt Michigan's pitch), but rather that her son goes somewhere that he's actually going to be expected to go to class and earn his grades. I think Harbaugh and staff have made it pretty clear that they will make sure the players go to class.

I once wrote something about a family friend that had gone to Stanford (his SR year was Harbaugh's first), just basic info about how he waited forever hoping to get a UM offer, etc. It was flattering and I soon received a PM. I check it and it's someone asking who I was because it was his Mother (lol). I told her who I was, she knew me and we had a nice chat and future chats but I realized how glad I was that I wasn't bagging on him. He didn't go to UM but she still read message boards so, seriously, remember that they are people in the actual world with actual feelings with all the access you have and 100x the reason to read fansites. Write like you assume each kid WILL read it because most will.

why the hell do fans tweet/interact with recruits or any of their friends and family.  Do they really think it will help?

All fan bases do it but I cringe when I see Michigan fans tweeting at recruits.....please just stop.

But there's more to it than that.  Recruits and their families read this blog too.  And sometimes there are negative comments made that really shouldn't be.  Sometimes I wonder if this can scare potential recruits away in some cases.  I always try to err on the side of caution in this area.  If I don't have something positive to say about the player, I just won't post it.

like my story in this thread, the was a recruit we had committed years ago when I was on Scout. This would be around 05-06 and he was an ATH type projected as an H-back or LB. He ended up at UNC (iirc) but because we took another kid projected where he thought he fit. Anyway, his mother was a regular on the board even after he decommitted and he chose UNC because his other option (PITT, iirc) had fans on their board saying how they didn't really need him. They thought he was overrated, etc and it literally is THE reason she gave for why he went to UNC. Now, I'll never dog a kid (!) but I'm honest in my opinions if asked. If I think we're reaching a bit or getting a steal I'll say so but that us one case I know of where a kid didn't go somewhere because of the fans online.

It looks classless to be on there taunting the buckeyes on that thread where the mother is commenting.  Can we follow the "don't tweet at recruits rule here"? Just apply it to "don't comment in threads where the recruit's mother is angry at another school" rule?

I read the article and comments last night, essentially (some) buckeye fans are calling her a helicopter parent and arguing that the educational aspect should be secondary. 'Cause we ain't come to play school! But seeing UM fans on the thread made me cringe.

They even went as far as to claim that she was looking nice for a "Cam Newton Deal". I agree that we should all stay away and let those folks do the work for us. They're doing a fine job of selling Michigan for us.

OP thanks for posting... I needed a good laugh.

Gotta love the Buckeye Nation, they will always come up with stupid shit like this.

Their DC is trying to pull this kid, and they think it's a good idea to insult his mother. Genius!!!

To be fair, only one of the posters looks to clearly be a buckeye... would not be surprised if the other one was as well.

Not that any of this really matters, but hopefully he will derive some extra satisfaction walloping OSU during his career knowing that these tools will be displeased with the outcome.

I actually enjoyed reading the comments.  We come out smelling good, and the  tOSU comments show tOSU self-destructing.

Just goes to show that recuits and their families do read blogs, recruiting articles, and comments.

Common sense to MGoBloggers, but I'll  say it anyway:  In general, don't directly contact them, and, if you don't have anything nice to say about a recruit, keep it to yourself.  Keep it neutral or positive.

One commenter, Dan Schuetz is fairly neutral, objective, but clearly has a Michigan slant.  He represents us well in the comments, and shows how to make comments.  The tOSU comments are terrible.

Expect to see it on RCMB with OSU changed to US. We, of course are above sexual insults and childish pictures, though I remember that episode and he clearly did say that before the censors change it to something else.

The original posting on this thread absolutely made my day.  At a charity event for the Ronald McDonald House in Columbus this past summer, I had the 'pleasure' of hearing Urban speak and I almost spit up when he said that kids get a better education at ohio than at MICHIGAN because they aren't enrolled in some 'joke' major like Kenesiology.

It takes you to all comments she's ever made. And there's one that responds to some Auburn fan calling her a fake, charlatan, and having no character....comedic GOLD! LOLz

ESSS EEEE SEEE!!!

(the relevant comment of hers is the one where she calls a guy delusional)

I don't blame recruits for falling into the mess of social media, but their parents should know better. I thought pretty little of Mike Weber's parents for making the comments about Michigan fans.

You have to expect the absolulte worst from social media. Some douches do not reflect OSU any more than some douches do not represent Michigan. Parents: ignore social media if you can and certainly maintain your annonymity.

I love the comments coming from Schiano to Gary's mom, a guy who's probably desperate enough to jump at the first HC job offered his way. The aftermath of Tampa Bay made his coaching career a smoldering crater.
