Brock's walk

Submitted by goblueram on

so who cried at the opening of the game during the walk?  I thought it was freakin awesome, and definitely teared up.  Not sure how much they showed on tv, but it was cool.  Great flyovers too.  Really the only thing that wasn't great was the one piped-in Journey song!  Great game, Go Blue, we are undefeated!

During the game, they interviewed Brock and showed the clip of him approaching, and then touching, the banner. It was pretty powerful.

I think it was during the second quarter that they showed portions of Brock's walk, and then interviewed him on the sideline. The ABC coverage didn't start until 3:30, and I think the team was on the field at that point.

During the latter stages of the game I realized that I hadn't noticed any piped-in music. Your mention of a Journey song was the first evidence that there was any. How was the mic-ed band? Was there a drop in piped-in music?

I definitely teared up during Brock's walk. I wasn't surprised I did since I get a little chocked up whenever I hear his story and everything he's been through.

What really pulled at my heart was the clear effort it took and it made me realize how much work he must have put in. Brings the notion of Barwis-ized to a new level.

That was easily the most powerful moment I've seen in Michigan Stadium. I'd been anticipating it for a while, and it exceeded all my expectations.  And it got even better when Michigan followed Brock's walk with a UConn three and out and a Michigan touchdown.  Really, really couldn't have been better.

I was at first visibly upset that ESPN (I live in FL) didn't lead with Brock, then when they showed him walking out and touching the banner with his brother, I was visibly choked up (thank god my wife already thinks I'm nuts). It was a great moment and I wish I could been there in person.

I still think it would have been classy and moving to have ESPN lead with the walk instead of going right to the broadcasters. Maybe ABC was different, but I had to sit through the ESPN highlight show with my favorite commentator Robbie Smith (sarcasm).

What an amazing, moving event at the Big House.   As I was openly tearing up in my section, the I glanced around, and noticed EVERYONE around me was doing the same.  Amazing story, amazing walk, amazing roar.  The crescendo as Brock approached the M GO BLUE banner was something I will never forget.  His shirt said it all "Glory to God"

So proud of Brock, and so proud of Michigan.  Go Blue.

Before Brock Mealer began his walk across the Michigan Stadium football field Saturday, he had one question for athletic director Dave Brandon.

“Would it be OK if I touched the banner?”

With an enthusiastic endorsement from Brandon, that’s exactly what Mealer did in front of the largest crowd to ever watch a college or professional football game in U.S. history.

I had chills and it grew. You could feel the energy rise in the stadium with every step. Not one play in a very good game for Michigan grabbed people like the walk.
