B10 needs to suspend that IL player

Submitted by caup on

The kid who got flagged for the PF hit on Denard.  The hit was late. Denard was defenseless, and the kid clearly speared him, leading with his helmet.

With all the recent emphasis on that kind of bullshit, the Big Ten needs to suspend that kid for a game.

That was totally inexcusable and was probably the reason why our superstar had to leave the game in a tight contest.

That dirty hit led to a competitive advantage for their team.

Time to counterbalance that with him not being able to play next week.

I didn't see the hit either, and after hearing everyone talk about it it's beginning to sound like a malicious hit.  I don't know if it was, video would be helpful.

poor form, but not full momentum.

The reason that type of action is a penalty though is because it can cause so much harm, even when not full on momentum.

Denard was down on the ground, so your brain potentially gets extra punishment if it bounced down just an inch to the turf.

And I agree that was a great call from the ref, because the hit wasn't really late, just really bad form, leading with the top of the helmet.

I think the ref's are very aware of the ball carriers and watching how they are hit.  It's the plays away from the ball that are more difficult.

Me too.  In my opinon, that was just as dirty.  The Illinois player knew it would be a short late hit penality so he took advantage of it.  I was surprised he wasn't ejected.

i was thinking the guy who shoved tate out of bounds should get some punishment too, but a double personal foul to put us on the one which directly lead to the winning score is probably punishment enough for him

A writer for the Champaign News-Gazette actually had the gall to congratulate Illinois' defense for knocking Denard out of the game because it preserved Juice Williams' yardage record from the '08 game.

The Illinois defense did one good thing Saturday: It made sure Juice Williams' name stayed atop the Michigan Stadium record book for the most total yards in a game. Robinson was on his way to shattering Juice's mark of 431 yards set in 2008 but he left with a head injury after the third quarter, stopping at 367 yards (career-high 305 passing, 67 rushing).

Later in the same column, he says the hit on Robinson shouldn't have even been a penalty.

Anyone here care to set him straight?

that some sort of penalty should be called on these types of plays.  This type of "spearing" happens all the time.  I'm not saying this type play is acceptable but the first step is that the refs have to consistently call this what it is - malicious and unnecessary.  It happens on the collegiate as well as the pro levels and will have to be called or it will come down to the players agreeing that it has to stop.
