2012 Basketball Recruiting questions

I see that Big Dog Jr is tearing it up recently(2012 SF).

I was wondering if you all had any insights as to how Beilein is doing with the other 2012's?  I THINK I remember Sam Webb saying that 4* wing Sherron Dorsey-Walker was close to dropping for Michigan the other day.  Can anyone confirm?  Others are saying that Michigan leads for currently unrated 2-guard Javontae Hawkins.  A while back we were hearing a lot about 3* small forward Nick Strauskus, and that he might go blue.  I see that we've offered a couple of monsters who he plays with at St. Mark's, 5* small forward Alex Murphy and 5* center Kaleb Tarczewski.  Any chance we might land any of those St. Mark's kids?

Edit: Found it...Webb says we are "close" with Sherron Dorsey-Walker around 3:25...whatever that means.

UMHoops is excellent but I don't think it is unreasonable to start a discussion about Michigan Basketball recruiting on the best Michigan sports message board.

I'm intrigued by Mitch McGary.

From one of Dylan's posts I got the impression Stauskus really cooled on us and he was kind of out of the picture.

I'm really excited about the 2011 guys.  I haven't really paid much attention to 2012.

We need a true 5 in the worst way, somebody who can prevent monster nights from any big we face !

If Coach B can get some centers and big men and recruit Detroit alot better, watch out

Where are the BIGS?

We have exactly one useable post player right now and none coming in next season. Most of the guys being talked about for 2012 are guards and wings.

I'm sorry but this small ball, system coach deal is just not going to work here.

The system works when you have a solid presence in the paint.  As much as Jordan Morgan has been producing, he's not able to lock down the key on his own.  He's young, so time will tell if he can learn how to muscle his way in for rebounds.  But it's hard to box out a guy who outweighs you by 40 lbs and has 3" on you.

I disagree.  Beilein's system is premised on a solid big guy in the paint.  We need a dominant rebounder who can score garbage points when the guards aren't hitting the 3's.  Morgan is a scrapper and he has impressed me.  But he just doesn't have the physical presence necessary to dominate the paint.

If Burke and Brundidge are as good as advertised, and I think they are, Belien has the makings of a very good team. Experience is what is lacking on this team and I am going to blame that on the freshman.  I don't see any reason why M should not be an NCAA tournament team for at least the next 4 seasons after this one. Belien has a nice foundation in place. Yay Belien.

Give Hardaway, Smot, and Horford a couple years in the weight room and look out, I think all three will be very good Big Ten players. I would be willing to bet that Smot has lifted weights less than 3 times in his entire existence, Natural Raw Talent, that's what up!!!

Its not like beilein isn't going after any bigs. Look at amir williams, and I know there are one or two big time big men that he's looking at for 2012
