The MGoPhotoPool Exists. Let's Make It Awesome

Submitted by Brian on

MGoBlog is trying to start creating photos, not just using them, and will have a guy on the road with Ace this fall getting pictures of recruits and etc. These will be Creative Commons licensed, so anyone can use them as long as they attribute them and don't use them for commercial purposes.

We've set up a flickr account to help us with this. I thought as long as I was doing this I would create an MGoBlog flickr pool.

The goal of the pool is to extend this pool of guilt-free photos to anyone who'd like to contribute. Photos for the pool should be:

  1. About Michigan sports or tangents (band, gameday things like tailgating)
  2. Creative Commons licensed. We are doing attrib-nocommercial but any flavor will do.

Unfortunately flickr does not have any mechanism via which I can enforce this latter requirement, so I'm looking for a few people to moderate the photopool to make sure. I'm not going to have a lot of time to monitor it during the season, so this might fall flat if no one cares to contribute. Email me at [email protected] if you'd like to moderate the pool.

If you're interested in contributing but don't know how to set this license on your pictures, go here for a rundown of what the various options are and to the licensing page to set your default license to some flavor of CC.

some, by the title, think I may be speaking of RR. Such is not the case. I'm sickened, almost to the point of reguritating to see LahLahLloyd sticing his head out again, after a three year absence, neatly wrapped in a bowl of OSU problems, stating, "whatever the fuck is happening is cool.

He does so for no other reason that Brady is teaching what he taught.

Here's the big one folks:  Think about it before responding. Would Bo have hidden for three years prior to endorsing the new coach?  Fuck No. Bo would have, through intervention, pointed the way to the new coach, and it may have been toward the 2K type coach. We don't know that.  What we do know is he wouldn't have put his head underground and hid like Lloyyd did.

Forever, Llloyd Carr will go down as the largest vagina we've ever employed as a head football coach. And as an aside; head to head??   RR would have carved him apart. Don't belive me.  See Appy St., Ore, circa 2007. Caretaker. Not much more, could be less.

Sounds awesome.  I'll add my pic below (in a not-largest resolution... I'm still thinking about selling, etc.)

If you're interested, this was taken 1/1/11, shortly after our bowl debacle.  Great sunset.

I have the interpretation of your picture Tom.

God was saying that in spite of the UM football program decending to an all time low, He hadn't forgotten about us.  That beautiful sunset was a reminder that He was still a good God.  And that even though we'd gone through a miserable season of lousy football spanning several years, hope (rather Hoke) was on the way.

And there would be a day in the not to distant future, when we could once again rejoice in the fierce, dominant, bone-jarring hits of a Michigan Defense; when our kicker would be able to kick field goals from 35 yards, even farther; and when our offense would keep our D fresh by sustaining long, time-consuming, 12-15 play scoring drives

God is a good God and He loves Michigan Football.

He invented the color blue for a reason.

If anyone knows an easy way to batch add Picasa Web Albums to a Flickr pool, I have a few hundred pictures from my days as the MGoPhotog

Can you create folders or categories in flickr?  It'd be nice to have folders for things like (and i'm just spitballing here):

  • campus
  • stadium
  • other sports venues
  • tailgating
  • home games
  • away games
  • bowl games
  • random people/things sporting U-M gear

Or some combination/consolidation/extension of the above.  Would help to not have to sort through a bajillion random pictures

So, yesterday, I contributed 13 photos that I shot at the M Spring Game from 1980. But, I'm wondering if I've configured the flikr properties of these contributions appropriately.

My concern stems from the fact that I can only see them in the MGoBlog PhototPool when I'm logged in to flikr. Otherwise, they don't appear in the pool (87 other photos from other contributors do). Can anyone else see them in the pool at this point?

Here's what I did to submit them to pool...

  1. Created a new flikr account for myself (based on my facebook account - not that that's significant).
  2. Joined MGoBlog PhotoPool Group. (and I can see my flikr account name, veritgho, appears in the MGoBlog PhotoPool members list, so no issue with that).
  3. Uploaded these 13 photos to my new flikr account.
  4. Added these uploaded photos to the MGoBlog PhotoPool Group on flikr.
  5. Added appropriate titles and descriptions to the photos.
  6. Noted that they were set as publicly viewalbe (so I made no changes from the default in that regard).
  7. Noted that they were not - by -default - set with Attirbution Non-Commercial Creative Commons licensing, so I did alter that property for all 13 such that they are now Attirbution Non-Commercial Creative Commons licensing.

Have I mucked something up?

Please advise.

Hmmm, since I created the flikr account from my pre-existing facebook account, I wonder, if it's my facebook account sharing/privacy permissions which are the culprit here. Maybe I should try creating a flikr account from scratch (by creating a Yahoo! account from scratch) and join the MGoBlog group on flikr using that new account.

I'll try it and see if that does indeed fix this issue.

...there are 10 photos in my contribution (not 13 - dunno if that would have led any of you astray when checking to see if you could see them).

They are a variety of shots from sideline/field perspective (and I as state in the photo descriptions, I have no recollection of having to do anything special to be on the sideline for that game. Times were different back then, perhaps? Or maybe, by virtue of my toting around a 35mm camera with a long lens, it was assumed I was permitted to be there? Or maybe my memory is failing and I *did* have to get some sort of special pass to be on the field).

In any event, there are a couple of shots of AC, one of Bo, one of Lawrence Ricks, one of Stan Edwards, a couple of Rich Hewlett...

You'll definitely know them if you can see them. All the other contributions thus far are much more recent vintage.
