MGOBLOG Spring Game Tailgate - April 17th

Submitted by turbo cool on
So, I have the day off and am a little bored. Well, better start looking ahead to the spring game! With an ample amount of time for proper execution, I call on Brian, Tim, Paul, FA, and the entire mgoblog community to begin planning for an awesome mgoblog tailgate for the spring game on April 17th. Because September 4th vs UCONN seems like light years away, the spring game is the next best thing we have to look forward to (sorry bball and hockey). Let's beat the 50,000 some mark set last year and support our boys. And as a plus, most of the improvements to the stadium will be done for us to check out. I would love (LOVE@!) to see the Michigan spring game get to the wild and slightly insane levels of attendance set by the SEC schools every year. Also, there will probably be a bunch of recruits there so seeing a bunch of drunk, rabid fans show up to a scrimmage in the middle of April has got to be good, right? RIGHT. So mgobloggers, what do you think? I know something similar was done last year in terms of a tailgate but whatever, let's do it bigger and better this year. P.S. That is an awesome time of year in a2 (fingers crossed that the weather behaves well) so after the game outdoor patios at places like Dominicks, Charleys, Main Street, or wherever you might like to go will probably be open. JUST DO IT. EDIT: Perhaps this should be a Diary. Moderators, if ya agree make the appropriate switch.

This will be my first spring game also. I am so excited to come up for this game. I am bringing my parents with me who are die hard ND fans and my children who have not been to a live game yet. I figure take them to the spring game and see how they handle it. My wife will also be there. She was a ND fan until I wrote it into our vows that she will denounce ND and all their evil...LOL! It was great! The tailgate sounds like a great idea. I will be there once a spot is announced. Any ideas when a list of festivities for that weekend will be released?

I suggested this last year, and was not joined by anyone, BUT - If you turn onto the Ann Arbor/Saline exit from I-94 and head towards the staduim you will go down a hill and then start heading up. At this point you look to the left and see a Michigan mailbox with someone waiving a flag and charging $20. This is where I have parked/tailgaited for over 10 years and it's a great spot. It's easy to find and only a 10 minute walk to the staduim. If you enter the parking area, there are trees lining the front and a huge expanse in the back for people to park. Located on the right side of the area as you are pulling in, near the front, there is a giant Willow tree. This tree is easily found by people and provides a great spot to party until the game begins. I think Blazefire parks here, but I never saw him at the 5 games I attended last year. (I drive 5 hours to get there, so no excuses unless you are banned from the USA) I don't know if the "official" spot will be somewhere else, but this is where I will be cooking up some sweet steak kabobs & beer brats. If you need the down-low on cooking amazing brats, just ask (I lived in Wisconsin for 2 years and I was taught by a master ninja brat fat guy thing/person...) Anyhoo, I would like to suggest this as a good spot for us to meet up, drink and eat before a great time in the best stadium in the country. Go Blue!! PS - Does it get better than a free game at the Big House where you get to pick your seats? Nope, I didn't think so.

I'll also bring some delicious spinach & artichoke dip, and perhaps some adult beverages in order to properly enjoy the festivities. I was there last year, sitting behind the end zone the offense was moving towards, and it was a lot of fun. Even the kind of cheesy stuff like the flag football game before it was entertaining.

I'll be coming in from Kentucky for the Spring game. I had planned to attend with my dad who was an even bigger fan than I am, but he died in January. This will be my first time attending a UofM game of any kind.

But here is a link to the parking page for football games during last season. I don't know what (if any) preparations or rules are going to be in effect for the spring game, they may just play it by ear to see what attendance is speculated. The first item on this page is a link to a very useful parking map of lots/streets around the stadium. Save or print the .pdf file and it should help you choose spot, or at least familiarize yourself with the area. http://www.mgoblue.com/genrel/082609aab.html ps. Sorry to hear about your Dad, you are the one person I won't despise for attending. (I can't, if you haven't noticed), have fun.
