TomVH: Saturday Visitor
2012 Detroit Mumford OL/DL Daron Brown (6'5", 315 lbs) told me he'll be taking an unofficial to Michigan on Saturday, then performing in the Best of the Midwest combine on Sunday.
I was talking to Coach Jackson and he invited me up there for a visit. I think there's a possibility they might offer, but I'm not sure. He wants me to bring some film with me, so we'll see.
Daron is being recruited by MSU, Toledo, Syracuse, Penn State, CMU, Cincinnati, and WMU so far. Here's his junior film.

Local guy who plays at positions of need, I like it.

Couldn't agree more...seems like a pretty decent bunch recruiting him too. Not to mention another kid with a GPA north of 3.0.

In all fairness, those are the schools recruiting him, not the ones offering. Rivals doesn't report any offers at this point. I'm not saying that says anything bad about his talent, just that it doesn't say anything at all.

Michigan HS football is terrible so lets recruit every local guy we can. Even our last two five star recruits from the state, Grady and BWC, have done nothing. I know Will still has time to make a contribution. While the recruiting services aren't always right they are a decent predictor. For 2012 Michigan has 6 players on the Rivals 250 watch list, 5 on the ESPN 150 watch list (16 pages long), and 15 on the Scout list out of 472 and most of those are in the bottom third.

Probably OG on offense, but certainly tackle on D. He could be a tackle, but he looks more like a guard to me. Pretty similar build to Chris Bryant, by the looks of it.
Either way, he needs to slim it down quite a bit, so don't read too much into his 315 weight. Although he can move OK for a kid with a lot of bad weight.

Have to see what a kid can do for a whole game not just their good plays. It also gives the coaches a chance to gage the competition the recruited player is going against.

What the Hell are these kid's parents feeding them? That's a serious grocery list.

All I have been hearing about is that the Midwest is stacked this year. How do these kids in Michigan outside of Ross, O'brien, RJS and Richardson shape up? Is this especially good talent for kids outside of the states top 5 players?

I don't see him getting offered as an OT, maybe as an OG. As long as he's not backpedaling, he seems to have decent mobility.
To be honest though, I don't really see this kid getting an offer at all.

Don't we think that Godin would be a better prospect to give an offer to before this kid? Just wondering what everyone else thinks

I think the coaches know what they are doing. The coaches might not even offer him after watching his film. They also might wait and see how he does at camps and in season.

<br>I don't want to sound cliche, but getting an offer is a privilege not a right.
