JH: Harbaugh Watch Day 1

Submitted by Geaux_Blue on

In the interest of limiting the discussion to less than 1000 threads (and create a timeline that should be interesting to look back on in the future), please contain developments (non-monumental of course) to this post. Avoid sniping, pro or con, as Michigan undoubtedly pursues Jim after his successful Orange Bowl win.

Should be interesting.

I think Dave Brandon knows a lot about dough.

Enough dough to make the accountant giddy.

If that doesn't work - this will

DB to Harbaugh - I'd like you to meet my friend, Mr. Stephen Ross.

for DB or UM.  I think the move across the country, a new baby and what his ultimate goal is are the issues.

He can always go the NFL, I think this is his one shot at Michigan.  If he ever wants to coach here, now will be the time.  We will find out around Thursday I imagine.

Anyone else think he looked sad during the press conference? Dude looked like he was about to cry... is it possible JH told the Stanford Lockerroom that he wasnt coming back? I would imagine not after all that "respect the night stuff" but hey, you never know.

last 3-4 years is not ultimately defining in my mind, but if you insist, Harbaugh and Stanford had more wins and more signature wins and wins on the road.  Comparing these two on an even timeline doesn't favor RR.

UNfortunately, there are not any stats that will exonerate RR at Michigan to the point of retaining him.  Besides the losses and how they lost, the numbers and the extremely fractured fanbase requires DB to make a change.  RR cannot succed here in this atmosphere.  He WILL succeed somewhere else.  Of that I am certain.

No lawyer worth his salt asks a question of a witness that he doesn't already know the answer to.  He wouldn't go this far down this road without knowing what is at the end of it.

From everything I have seen and heard from him, he is a class act and a true man of integrity.  He put in incredible effort and time and has been a great guardian of these young men.  That being said, I do not believe he is the right fit for Michigan and Michigan is not the right fit for him.

"los" I resent you calling us "MGoHaters".  We do not hate, we love our university with a passion and want the best coach we can get.  And I believe all of us want to see Rich Rodriguez succeed.  Most of us have realized that he is simply not capable of succeeding here due to many factors, some within his control and some far outside of his control.  What is best for Rich and for the university at this point is to part ways, amicably if possible.  RR will land on his feet and coach again somewhere else very soon.

Remember, RR has said this as well, coaches are paid to win.  He has not won enough to keep his job at Michigan.  It's that simple.

My only reservation about Harbaugh: as long-time U of M fan, from back before Lloyd started improving the bowl record a little, I am so used to having what I most want at this time of year cruelly plucked away.

Lou Holtz thinks he will come to Michigan because our stadium is bigger than theirs.  At least that's what I got.  And with that uterly worthless piece of "information" I go to bed.

FWIW, The Mountain is currently showing the TCU-SDSU game from November. If you get it, it's a chance to watch Harbaugh and Hoke back to back...

In the event that RR is fired this week, are we expecting an immediate announcement of the next coach?  I think most of us are expecting a head coach announcement Thursday or Friday at the earliest according to DB, but several rumors indicate that RR may be given the pink slip as early as tomorrow.

on so many fronts.  How he treat his scholarship athletes that he feels are not living up to potential is reprehensible.  He pulls schollies whenever he wants.  He oversigns and cuts players he promised schollies to and then there is the crap he pulled whe he was here.

No thanks.  There's a reason he's in the SEC.  He was never a consideration for the job in 2007-2008 anyway.

I liked the way JH told off the ESPN reporter after the games "I asked you to respect the players".

I realize the media feels obligated to ask the questions (and create the controveries), but it really kills the buzz and devalues the game.  I can't stand the way the ESPN announcers will spend more of the 2nd half of regular season games talking about BCS rankings and possible coaching changies and contrived controverisies than about the game and players we are watching.
