Flashback: "Denard is being lied to" (Feb. 2009)
BlueUPer (who doesn't yet have enough points - feel free to give him an upvote) found a great link to the Scout recruiting boards from Feb. 2009. It seems those dastardly coaches at Michigan were lying to Denard, telling him he'd have a chance to play QB. The nerve of them!

at the end of last year that did not think DR was a QB. Remember all those post that said DR s/b a slot receiver, a RB or a CB?
RR, to his credit always said, "No, Denard is a quarterback". Who here suspected this kind of growth over 1 off season?
I'll man up and admit that I just did not see it coming, but thank God it's here.

Well thanks for spitting in the bean curd >:-O

Don't feel bad. I was right there with you. Hell, I was hoping he would return punts.

Rich Rod and his staff know how to develop an amazing QB!

So...has anyone been the hero and private messaged hssportsfan22 from the other board yet? He said he'd post an apology if he's wrong and he *hopes* he is wrong about Rod being such a liar. Please someone...relieve his pain, contact him, let him know the board is ready to receive his apology so that his hopes can be fulfilled and he can put this behind him.

Heisman hype we've been seeing. Everyone was still saying "it appears Denard is starting" but RR didn't announce the starting QB, and we were all waiting to see that first snap on gameday. What a special year we're being treated to.

This article isn't re: Denard, but reading the previously-mentioned article, I remembered this article I read after the win over Florida. This is one of my all-time favorite pieces written for ESPN, and looking back, who could have thought this is where we'd be?

I don't know if anyone would want to make this a board topic, but I thought it was cool to reread and others may enjoy it, and to be honest it kind of choked me up a little.

many ppl on this board thought he would be a slot ninja or cb, never a qb. great props to RR for sticking with denard

I'll be honest, I never thought I see Denard become as good of a passer as he is right now with like a completion % below 50 in high school.

It really is amazing what one offseason of good coaching (not a statement about quality of M's coaches, good or bad, but it is a much higher level of coaching than he had available to him in HS) will do.

That was so much fun to read. I think that thread deserves a spot in the MGoHOF.

Have you read dontbeaRAIDERhater's posts on that thread? They're hilarious.
dontbeaRAIDERhater: "(Ryan) Becker is an all around better, smarter QB than Robinson. I agree with Sportsfan. I don't agree with all the hype he is receiving as a QB. He is fast as hell and a good athlete, but I definitely don't think he will have success as a QB at the next level."
In response to the post "Robinson is way better then becker could ever be."
dontbeaRAIDERhater: "Are you serious? Way better? Ever? Robinson does not possess the skills to be a successful QB. The best thing he does is just run the ball himself. With his 4.3-4.5 speed he would be better as a WR or RB. He hasn't matured past community league mentality. He's not good at reading defenses. His accuracy sucks and his completion percentage is not that good. He likes to use the sandlot mentality of I'll throw it as far as I can and you run as fast as you can and hopefully you'll catch the ball!! He locks in on one receiver and if he's not open he runs himself. He's not good at looking off the defense. His best asset is his speed and that alone does not make a good QB. As far as Becker goes, I'm sorry but I cannot understand how he hasn't gotten more recognition than he has and how people can say that he is not that great. All he does is win games. He might not average 300 ypg, but he is smart as hell. I'll take Becker over Robinson or even Smith any day."
dontbeaRAIDERhater: "Robinson is still not D1 QB material. D1 athlete=maybe, D1 QB=definitely not."
In response to the post "Robinson or anybody with a half of mind could be a stud QB at STA. Becker right place right time. Enough said!!!!!"
dontbeaRAIDERhater: "You keep thinking that. I don't think many people would agree with that statement. Robinson could not have been STA"s QB."
In summation, dontbeaRAIDERhater believed that DRob didn't even have the skills to be St. Thomas Aquinas High School's quarterback, let alone the Heisman candidate quarterback at the winningest college football program in history.
(By the way, as I posted above, Ryan Becker is now splitting time at quarterback at Penn. If you look at his results and stats, I think you'll find that he falls far short of DRob, and that is putting it mildly.)

Well, this is annoying; this highly entertaining topic seems to have been deleted, so now the link at the top of this thread just takes me to the main list of Florida HS football topics. Even worse, Scout must have a file or tag that tells the GoogleBot not to make the archive of this page available, because the same link is still in Google results [for part of the transcript MGoMaizeAndBlue posted from dontbeaRAIDERhater's comments] as of right now, but there is no "Cached" link.
If I didn't know any better, I would suggest that this hssportsfan fellow was not as much of an upstanding gentleman as he had previously claimed, and instead of facing the music, eating his words and posting an apology has instead deleted the evidence, in the manner of a big pussy aka coward.
