2010 Schedule Wallpaper - The $550,000 Cupcake - Game 3 Massachusetts
I'm feeling a little shy about two wallpaper diary posts in one day, but got some encouragement from some experienced members so here goes.
Like many big-time college football programs, our beloved Wolverines have paid an FCS "cupcake" (UMass) lots of money ($550,000) to sacrifice themselves on the altar of massive gate receipts. The problem is that this season there have been more than a few upsets by FCS teams over their benevolent hosts and there was "the game which shall not be named" a few years ago at the Big House. I couldn't bring myself to make fun of UMass as directly as I have with previous opponents so this week's image can be interpreted as a good-natured dig at both teams.
The image below is a preview only. You can get this week's widescreen, 4:3, iPad and mobile wallpapers at The Art. The Art. The Art!.
There is also a Game 1 Wallpaper that I didn't have enough points to post. It's here for the downloading if you're already feeling nostalgic about the Connecticut game. The Husky puppy piddling in fear tested well with wives, girlfriends and small children. The Art. The Art. The Art!.

Awesome stuff, bookmarked for my wallpaper consumption!

Your wallpapers are fantastic -- very clean and artistic with a nice bit of humor. I don't know if you're interested, but I'm wondering if you'd like a co-designer (I'm the guy who put up the Denard wallpapers). I don't have any sort of site for hosting images, and since you have that taken care of along with some high-quality stuff, I think we could put together a can't-be-beat collection of Michigan wallpapers and artwork.
Shoot me an email at [email protected] if you're interested. I won't be offended if you want to do your own thing, of course.

Check your inbox. I have a collaboration idea that might be well-suited to the Spring and off-season.

Awesome you better be working overtime so that we can change our wallpaper as soon as a game ends.

awesome job on all of them so far.

I do enjoy these. I really like the husky peeing in fear. Nice job and look forward to the remaining ones.

Thanks. My kids loved the Husky one too. Last week they kept asking where the dog went and wanted to know if Jesus would be mad at me for making fun of him. I distracted them with the pink and pastel blue design for Week 3 and don't think they realized that I never answered the Jesus question.

Really great stuff. Very professional looking and clean.

I'm in Columbus for business and I heard on the radio this morning that OSU is giving OU (NTOU) 850k to play at the shoe (all of an hour away). Is this just OSU giving money to another Ohio public school or is UMass getting less because they are FCS? How much do we pay eastern/western to play at the big house?
September 16th, 2010 at 9:56 AM ^
but let's ease up on the Cupcake stuff. Granted, it's funny and well done, but we are so young-let's not tempt fate. I heard people say the same thing, it was the summer of 2007. Now UMass is no App. State but let's get a win before we do this...A loss this week destroys the last two weeks.

It will also destroy several fist-sized areas of my wall.

I think the point of these wallpapers is that we are poking a little fun, in a classier way, at our opponents. After all, do we not have wallpapers for the Wisconsin, Iowa, Ohio State, or even Penn State or Michigan State because we may lose any of those games? How is this different from having a wallpaper of Desmond striking the pose leading up to the OSU game? The fact of the matter is that these are supposed to be fun. I do not feel like having a wallpaper on my computer is tempting fate, or will have any effect on the outcome Saturday.
That said, this game was scheduled as a cupcake game, as was Bowling Green. That was the intent of the Athletic Department when scheduling these games so I think it's certainly fine that the wallpapers reflect that. That's just my opinion, anyway.

You communicated EXACTLY my intent with these wallpapers in general and this game specifically. I really could not have responded to the original post more clearly than you.

I do quite enjoy these. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Photoshop skills are solid. Was really impressed with the ND background. Keep it up.

Looks like we've overloaded the website. Can't download anything.

What browser error are you getting when you try to download the wallpaper? Was there a specific wallpaper you wanted? If you're still having problems let me know and I'll post an alternative link for you.

Love the wall paper - look forward every Mon am to seeing the new version and downloading for my laptop and iPod. Keep up the great work!

I've been changing my phone's wallpaper on a weekly basis since the season started. Before that, it was a picture of my son for the previous year or so.
These have been fantastic. Thanks!

Wunderbar. Unfort I have neither a fancy new widescreen, nor the resolution needed to get these to fit on my maxed-out 1280x1024 monitor. :(
September 17th, 2010 at 11:50 AM ^
Try downloading the 4:3 wallpaper and then when you select the background image for your computer you should be offered the choice to stretch or fill the available space instead of showing the full size wallpaper. Maybe give that a shot?

Just wanted to chime in (along with everyone else) and let you know that these wallpapers are both clever and extremely well done. A Brit might classify them as "cheeky." Please keep up the good work.

UMass is no cupcake. They are 64th in the country according to the saragin rankings. I dig the wallpapers, I just hope our team doesn't feel the same way, because once you overlook one of these teams and they pull a James Madison or a Jacksonville State on ya. I'm excited to see the Bowling Green and Indiana wallpapers that are surely coming soon. Nice work man.

The UConn one is clever, although it won't let me download.. +1 to you sir, keep em' coming.

really great. Keep up the excellence!

These are really nicely done. Can't wait to see what you do for MSU.

I've got a few good ideas for State already. I've manipulated a few family members and friends to join my informal focus group to help me pick the best concepts.

Not sure where to put this so I'll throw it in here as I was admiring the wallpaper.
So both my stepkids are in our local high school's marching band. (Cuyahoga Falls OH) It's probably one of the better mbands in this part of OH and they always blow away other schools at the shows. Anyway they had a football game tonight because they were playing a team from up near Cleveland who can't play on Friday due to a religious holiday. Apparently after the game they were treated to a band show from a "travelling band" which turned out to be UMASS's marching band. All 300 members of them. The kids were blown away and said how the band was awesome and such but afterward they said the band director got on the mic and said soemthing to the effect of "I bet you're all looking forward to us beating Michigan on Saturday?" My step son took a moment when it got quiet to yell "Go Michigan!" Deserves an Atta' boy!
Apparently the band is sleeping in the high schools gymnasium tonight. WTF?
September 17th, 2010 at 11:58 AM ^
I'm glad you passed this on. I thought it was super that the UCONN band brought a gazillion band members; kudos to UMASS for doing the same.
It doesn't surprise me that the band is sleeping in a gym. I mean, that sucks, but Massachusetts universities are pretty under-funded. The Boston Globe just did an article about ihow much worse its gotten recently (and in fact they featured a students who was coming to Michigan because she wouldn't consider UMASS).
Does our band "host" the other band when they visit? Or do they just glare at each other? I was wondering if they'd get any hospitality from U-M while here. I apologize to them in advance for any moronic boos they get. Sigh.

I came into the possession of SHOELACEROBINSON.com a few years back. I have no use for the domain anymore, but feel it would be valuable to quite a few UM fans.
If anyone is interested in purchasing SHOELACEROBINSON.com, email me at [email protected]. I will provide more details via email.
Thanks!
