Did my part

Submitted by sandiego on

Well, I did my part by emailing MSC, DB and JDelaney.  Not sure if it helps, but here was my email.  I even emailed some borderline creepy photos of me and the kids watchin the game.

To Whom It May Concern:

I'm sure you are getting quite a few emails these days about possibly moving the Michigan/Ohio State game (The Game).  I wanted to share some background about me and my opinion on the matter for what it is worth:

I was born at Univ. of MIchigan hospital.  I lived at 515 W. Hoover St. and attended Bach Elementary School.  My father was a Linguistics Professor at UoM.  Some of my earliest childhood memories are of having people park their cars in our yard and driveway for home games, particularly Ohio State (and Michigan State) games.  My brother and I were the only 6 and 9 year olds on the block who made $150 every home game.  We attended every game our Dad could get tickets for.

When I was 8 I moved to New Jersey, but came to Ann Arbor every summer and winter break.  I played water polo with the Flounders and my Dad and ate lunch at the Union.  I used to play against Gene Powers before he passed, because he was so old and I was so young, we were evenly matched!

After high school, I joined my brother at Michigan, where we both graduated with BS in Mechanical Engineering.  I wrestled for then Coach Bahr when the current coaches McFarland and Trost were assistants.  I'm a member of the alumni association, as is my brother.  I now live in San Diego and my brother just over the Mason-Dixon line in Sylvania, OH.  I fought with Time Warner Cable to add The Big Ten Network to their sports package and I've payed their ridiculous rates ever since so I can watch every game.  I've been back for a handful of games at the Big House, but have mostly gone to the West Coast games (Oregon, Rose Bowl).

With all that being said, I hope you understand my loyalty to the University of Michigan.  I'm not gonna tell you anything you don't know or haven't heard already, but I think splitting up Michigan and Ohio is a mistake.  Sure, I want to beat them twice a year, every year.  But not at the expense of diminishing the greatest rivalry in all of sports!  A mid-October game loses much of the luster and drama.  Ohio State will become just another BS rivalry game - no more important than MIchigan State or the Brown Jug.  And at what cost?  Do we make an extra $2 mil a year?  $5 mil a year?  At some point, the fans and alumni need to be more important than advertising or TV revenue.

Thank you for your time and attention.  I hope you do the right thing.  If not for me, for the sake of my 2 year old twins (photos from last years Game attached)

Best,

Class of 91'

EDIT:  To spare the board more of 'the horror', I've removed the OMG shirtless picture.

How horrible would it be to get in trouble at work/possibly fired for laughing so hard at these posts but i never even got to see the picture?

Because it almost just happened to me.

Luckily i have crazy alt-tabbing skills and my boss is not so up to date on IT stuff and i explained i was laughing at an email from a customer.

I haven't LOL'd like that in a while, especially at work.

Awesome. But not as awesome as it could've been if i had the real pic....

The problem is that I'm afriad that in sending a shirtless picture of yourself to MSC et al., you most likely did your part to help the folks on the other side of the issue.
