Predicting the Wolverines 2010 schedule
UConn- With RR knowing this team and beating them down every time at WVU, this shouldn't be a problem, I say we get the W.
@ND- Brian Kelly is coming in with a new QB and a lost star WR. He should be focusing on recruiting more than this season, we get the W.
UMass- Easy team, no doubt, W.
BGSU- If this was Toledo, we wouldnt have a problem, we had nobody really in 2008 to work with Toledo, and BGSU reminds me of Toledo, W.
@Indiana- Depending on last years performance, and the guys we got this year with the growth of Forcier and Roundtree, Indiana should be a challenge, but we get the W.
MSU- Comforting, isn't it? We should get MSU done this year if we don't mess up like last year, if everything goes right, we get the W.
Iowa- I'm not so sure about this one, sure we lost last year by a Denard pick, but Robinson is more accurate, and Iowa having a previously hurt QB Stanzi, he could have a problem. But I just can't be so sure about this one, W.
@PSU-They don't have a QB, their defense is softer. We should get something on them, but I think we're going to lose by a few points. L.
Illinois- We should of gotten them done last year, but this year, we WILL get them done. W.
@Purdue- Lost in '08 and '09 by late mistakes, since Valentin and their star WR is gone, we should get the W.
Wisconsin- '08 was great when we beat them, but they have a better RB and a better QB. I'm going with the L here guys, Wisconsin will beat us by taking advantage of mistakes.
@OSU- Our defense should know Pryor's plan by now, but we're not going to beat them like that, we need an offense that will drive and drive, in '08 we didn't do that because our QB's had no experience. In '09 we didn't do that because Forcier threw to many ints.
We will beat Ohio State.
Final record: 10-2
there's just too much optimism, just too much to like about where the team has positioned itself. After so many short coaching tenures though, its pretty hard to think this wont be different. A faceplant is definitely a possibility but its pretty far from my mind.

Same with us.

Same with us.
So you're basically operating under the assumption that the transition from a pro-style to a spread offense will have occurred seamlessly by the second game of Kelly's tenure at ND?
No, I have said a few times that my expectations are 6-6 and anything above that is a bonus. I just put the UM game in the first 6 not the 2nd.

GERG's hair trumps Kelly's. Game over.
I just don't understand why anyone thinks ND will be any good (not just you Irish). They went 6-6(IIRC) against one of the easiest schedules in football. Their tough games were against a down USC team, Stanford, and Pitt. There were no heavy-weight opponents. What makes them better? I can't imagine Crist is better than Jimmah. Is there defense supposed to be drastically improved? I just don't get it.
FWIW, ND played the 37th toughest schedule in the country last year according to Sagarin. We were 72. ND didn't play many super tough teams, but they really only had 1 layup game.
This year we have layups against Umass, Bowling Green, Indiana and Illinois (who might be one of the 5 or 10 worst BCS teams in the country. Seriously, they will be beyond awful)
I guess I consider Nevada and Wazzou pretty much gimmies but...it's debatable. I am assuming you are talking IU and Illinois being in the bottom 5-10 of BCS conferences because if you are not...you are way off. I think our ranking is so low because of Baby Seal U last year. He has MSU at 47 and they played a much easier schedule then us IMO, so....
yeah I think delaware st had a big impact, I remember seeing UM's SOS at 90 not long after that game. I would have considered Nevada a gimme as well if I had known how unprepared they were for the game. I expected them to play as they did at the end of the year, their offense was one of the strongest in the country.
Not sure but I think he may have been referring to a star receiver they "lost" to the NFL, Golden Tate.
...you want to predict that we will lose at Penn State and win at Ohio State b/c of some gut feeling, intangibles, etc., that is fine. But to do so trying to use football analysis and logical reasoning is flat-out incorrect.
why do people do this?
Is it possible that ND's football team and Irish are overrated?
Are you high?
Maybe the mods could just pin one thread where everyone gives their predictions, no need to have a million different threads on the same topic.
There was a Meta thread about improving the site a little while back. Brian responded to a specific suggestion about that--have another board with "permanent" topics added and removed by the mods, but he said it might be a bridge too far IIRC. I think it's a great idea--especially when bad things happen.

UConn: L.
ND: L.
UMass: W
BG: W
Indiana: W
MSU: W
Iowa: W
PSU: L
ILL: W
Purdue: W
Wisc: W
Ohio State: W
Overall 9-3 and Big Ten champs, a slow start and a big finish.
I think what he might be trying to say is that Brian Kelly is a college football coach preparing his college kids for playing football at the collegiate level. Unlike Weis and his open tryouts for the DC job. DC by committee is failure before it even starts. If ND even moderately improves on defense I don't see any problem with them winning this game, and by a lot.
Kelly will tailor this game to quick throws to avoid having to try and save Crist from a non-existent DL. Sorry fellas I just don't see the UM line, LBs or secondary as even close to being improved after losing Graham and Warren. Perhaps they can get Cissoko out on a day pass to mug the WRs again.

How does losing Graham or Warren make the Linebackers less likely to improve?
