Why hasn't U of M reached out to Jake Long

Submitted by Butch-dontcall… on

Just read an article in the freep (sorry) --- but the interviewer asked if UofM has reached out to him to come back for a game and he said "no"..... It seems to me that an all-amercan, all-pro, no.1 overall pick, very pro-michigan guy would be a great guy to talk to or have the o-line talk to-  given the o-line troubles... he is a Lapeer born michigan man... Is there some history I dont know about? ...go blue

Because they hate him and every former player and Harbaugh wants to destroy Michigan traditions and always lose games to rivals forever and ever. Or, you know, they just haven't offered him a job and the question was nebulous. But no reason not to get needlessly worried about it and assume Michigan is fucking up somehow.

Has anyone at Michigan reached out to you about coming back for a game?
"Nope, they haven’t."

What do you think of Jim Harbaugh's tenure so far at Michigan?

"I think he’s been doing a good job. I’m excited about this year. Having that defense coming back will be legit, and we’ll get the offense figured out. He’s a Michigan man, he loves football and he’s so fired up, I don’t know how he does it. I think it’s an exciting time to be a Michigan fan."

Which game are you most excited for this year?
"Oh yeah, Ohio State. That’s how it is. We got Notre Dame back on the schedule, so it’s those three games: Notre Dame, Ohio State and Michigan State. Especially this year, they’re all away. We haven’t beaten Michigan State in a while and we haven’t done well against Ohio State going back to when I played. But those two games for sure, Michigan State and Ohio State, you always got to win those games."

Do you have any thoughts on how Jim Harbaugh is covered in the media?
"I haven’t really kept up with it, so I don’t know everything that’s being said. But I think he has a good coaching staff, he loves Michigan, loves the players and he’s going to do everything he can to win games for them."

You retired from the NFL on April 24, 2017. What have you been up to in post-NFL life?
"I have a 3-and-a-half-year-old daughter and a 7-month-old daughter, so I’m being Dad right now. And I’m still rehabbing from my injury from a year-and-a-half ago. I still have to get healthy, and right now I just have to be in bed a lot."

How many surgeries have you had?
"I had two surgeries in college and 18 in the pros, so 20 all together. I’ve had four on each knee, three on my right shoulder, one on my left shoulder, torn bicep, torn triceps and then five done on my Achilles and one on my ankle."

...........

So Long praises Harbaugh, says he's excited about the upcoming season, but his statement about not beating MSU in a while and not being really up on Harbaugh's media coverage suggests he's had his focus elsewhere for the last couple of years.

Like two young children and recovering from 20 fucking surgeries.

Manufacturing a worry about issues between Long and UM out of that article is classic internet message board.

I like the idea of bringing back a bunch of great former Michigan Offensive Lineman for a game next year and honoring them as a group.  Very underappreciated position, but they really have to produce for the offense to move. "The Big Uglies Butting Heads Up Front", Keith Jackson used to say.

You could bring back Long, Steve Hutchinson, Jon Jansen, Jumbo Elliott, Bubba Paris, Stefan Humphries to name a few.  Dan Deirdorf can walk down from the booth.  And bring out Jon Runyan Sr - would be very cool with his son now starting on the O-line.

Give the boys up front their due.  What do you think?
