ESPN reporting that Georgia looking at Rick Pitino
How does he not get a show cause?
Sounds like Matta is the leading candidate right now, but if Pitino is still part of the conversation, UGa needs to step back and ask themselves how badly they want to win. If its bad enough to hire Pitino, they've got bigger issues.
Let's be honest here: UGa is never, EVER going to care about basketball the way they care about football. No one in Athens realistically expects UGa to compete for national titles and Final Four appearances. The expectation should be to field competitive teams and make the tournament probably every other year, and there are at least a few candidates out there who would get you there. Matta is one.
Pitino would get you well above that expectation, but at what cost? Why drag your school's name through the mud with all the garbage he's going to bring with him? Unnecessary bad publicity for a program that has no internal or external pressure whatsoever to be a national contender.
