Feel The Strength

I’m not sure firing Caldwell is the answer right now. The team has finally gotten to a point where it’s competitive. The coaches have put the players in position to win in multiple games this year and the players have failed to execute. Some may say that’s coaching but I would disagree. I think we’re seeing just how hard it is to win and how hard it is to be successful in today’s NFL. If Caldwell gets fired who replaces him?

You attempt to replace him with a future Championship coach.  That's what a winning organization would try to do.  Every great coach in any sport got his first shot at some point.  Lions should look beyond the traditional retreads.

I think Caldwell has taken more than his fair share of the blame.  Offensive and defensive lines can make average coaches look much better or much worse.  I believe 75% of the coaches in this league would've struggled to do better than 9-7 with this team.  I do think it's time for him to go because the team needs a spark more than they need stability.  Beyond that, Quinn needs to be held accountable and he won't be until he has his own guy.  We need to get the clock ticking on him.

Lions need to have a short leash on GMs until they find the right one.  If a GM is here 3 years and hasn't shown the ability to put the team in a much better position (factoring identity, wins, youth and contracts together), he should be on the hot seat.  The players carrying this team aren't Quinn's.  If this team doesn't win a playoff game next year, they should sweep out everyone and continue to do that until they find a competent GM.  The good GMs turn franchises around quickly in this hard cap league.
