Red Wings game 1 vs. Wild

Submitted by goblueram on

Hockey season is officially back underway!  Tonight the Red Wings will break in the brand new Little Caesars Arena in the home opener against the Minnesota Wild.  The Wings are coming off a disappointing and emotional season.  This one could be just as ugly in the standings, but for now let's just celebrate (and crack a Molson) the return of the greatest sport on earth!

The building looks empty. Especially for the first game in a new building. Let's go Wings! *edit* It was the end of intermission when I saw a shot of the crowd. Crowd looks and sounds much better now.

First ever goal scorer in the new Little Caesars Arena?  Anthony Mantha!!

Being outplayed but two quick PPGs!  GO WINGS!!

edit:  ugh....

(final) edit:  Undefeated!!!  They played decent the last 15 minutes of the game.  Don't know if the Wings will be a playoff team this year, but gonna enjoy winning the season opener!!

got a lot of work to do, but if the kiddies come along, the vets don't totally die on the vine (I asusme we get nothing from Kronner this year already), and the combo of Jimmy and Petr can be their better, healthier seles, they could make the playofs.  Larkin looks very fast, and that line might do real damage this year.  If they are a plus line, that would be good.

The Pens were been the best team last year because they had several gritty defensemen that are not household names. Daley brings a whole dimension on the blue line we have missing for a long time.

Larkin and Zetterberg looked more fluid than they did last year. Maybe the "long" rest had some benefits.

Great game, minus that 48 second barage.  Equally great was the Pens getting spanked and little Alex DeBrincat putting a hell of a hit on Ian Cole.

last night as I was trying to catch just about every hockey game that was on.  Kind of surprised by the crowd for their first game at the new arena. It looked like there were a lot of fans disquised as empty seats.
