OT - Michigan Cycling Team Kit Order

Submitted by XtraDurzzle on

Hey all, there has been interest in these orders before, so I'm posting this on behalf of the club.

The Michigan Cycling team is a Club Sport who competes in the Midwest Collegiate Cycling Conference. Other teams in our conference include MSU, OSU, Notre Dame, Indiana, Wisconsin, Purdue, Illinois, Case Western, Louisville, Northwestern, Cincinatti, Marquette, Miami (NTM), and a bevy of other small schools. Our conference also features a few schools that consider cycling a varsity sport including Marian and Lindenwood.

The kit order is once again live and this year they're added a couple more options.

These are the same exact uniforms that the team will be racing in next spring.

More information about the team can be found here: http://www.umcycling.org/

Prices do tend to run a bit high, but such is the nature of being a small fish in the big pond of paying university royalties and the like. Any proceeds go towards helping get team member's to races and most importantly nationals.

Also, we have switched vendors this year, and expect a massive step up in quality, as well as slightly reduced prices, so this is the year to order if you've been hesitant in the past!

The order closes on October 15th, and the kits will be delivered to you in mid-November.

Please note that because this is a custom order, there is no returns.

Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

I'm a few hours late so maybe this gets lost in the swirling drain of internet irrelevance, but sizing can be a minefield with bikes due to the different conventions and geometries brands use.  For example many many people have stories like "I have a specialized 56 that fits me but trek said 52 or 54".

in my mind, the key parameter with getting a fit, and choosing a bike, is going to be the stack and reach.  That is, the vertical distance between the bottom bracket and top of head tube, and the horizontal distance from the bottom bracket and top of head tube.  Beyond that, a stem and handlebars come in all manner of configurations, as do seat posts and saddles, but to make use of that, you need to know the basic frame size is correct.

I dont know anything about shops in Michigan, but a lot of places insist you buy a bike based on your height or inseam, and then try to fit you onto that bike.  This might work pretty well in 80(?)% of cases, but humans are not all normal shaped.  If you can afford it, get yourself to a place that has a fit bike that has the ability to dynamically adjust your contact points in relation to the bottom bracket.  This is a timeconsuming process, and not cheap, but SO worth it.

Late to the discussion, so hopefully this message finds you. I am in my second year of 'serious' riding. I am of the 'endurance' variety and ride mostly solo. Did a lot of research before pulling the trigger on a ride, and in this second year, I've learned that for me, the undeniable truth is that the manufacturer of the bike is nearly irrelevant. Find a bike shop - and more importantly a mechanic - that you trust. the mechanic may very well become the second-most important person in your life...unless you are agnostic ;-)   Don't hesitate to bring a used bike in for a look before closing the deal. Most LBS's are happy to help as it establishes, hopefully, a returning customer.

Good luck!

Facebook Michigan Bicycle Classified... Great used stuff on there.  I just posted a Giant AnyRoad CoMax size L.  Great road/gravel bike.  Will be coming to Ann Arbor tomorrow and can bring it if anyone is interested.

I'm definitely going to order as I'm buying a bike this week in the hopes of getting healthier. Thank you for posting

Now to my threadjack

Paging WD or someone with the same knowledge of UM apparel.

Want to buy my kid a UM hockey jersey and I do not like the offerings at MDen. Will Nike release authentic, stitched on numbers, letters, etc., or are the replicas all we have to choose from? Please help.

I have one of the Primal kits (maize jersey, bib shorts) from a couple years ago and even though others have complained about quality, I am perfectly happy with mine and love the design.  So if these new ones are even better, that should be very good.

Anyone have any insight as to sizing?

Primal, by way of comparison, ran a size too small; you needed an XL if you were an L.

How true to size is this new supplier?

Well, there goes another thousand dollars out of my bank account again. I got 2 jerseys, a bib, arm and leg warmers last year. Everytime I'm out, I get at least a couple honks and "go blues" in FORT COLLINS, COLORADO! It's cool they have socks and shoe covers this year

I missed on the jersey last year with the sillouhette of the state on it and was hoping it would be repeated, but this years offerings look fantastic as well! Nice work!
